History

The Chevaliers de Védrines owned this estate for centuries and gave their name to it. Included in the 1855 classification, it was acquired by the family of the present owners in the mid-19th century.

The estate is located in the municipality of Barsac in the area Sauternes (Graves, Bordeaux). The origin is in 1677, when Jean Raymond took over an agricultural property called Doisic (later Doisy). The first vineyards were probably created by descendants. The Védrines family became the owner of the property in 1704 through marriage. In the first half of the 19th century, the property was divided into three, namely Château Doisy-Daëne. Chateau Doisy-Dubroca and Chateau Doisy-Védrines. In 1850, most of the property still belonged to Madame Dubosq, probably a direct descendant of the Védrines family. In 1851 she sold Château Doisy-Védrines to the Boireau family, direct ancestors of the Castéja family. Anyway, at the Bordeaux classification 1855 (for Sauternes) all three goods classified in second place (Deuxième Cru Classé).

Vineyards

Around 30ha of vineyard are planted with 85% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation is in stainless-steel before and 18 month aging period in oak, of which 70% is new. Doisy-Védrines is a richer rounder style than Doisy-Daëne. Interestingly, although entitled to the Barsac appellation, the wines are always labelled as Sauternes.

Winemaking

Château Doisy-Védrines remained in the hands of the Boireau family for a long time. It was only at the age of 94 that Madame Teyssonneau left the management to her grandson Pierre Castéja. Today Olivier Castéja heads the company. Although he is a member of this famous family, his company is not part of the family empire Borie-Manoux, The vineyards cover 26 hectares of vineyards with the varieties Sémillon (85%) and Sauvignon Blanc (15%) are planted. The long-lasting noble sweet wine is aged for 18 months in 70% new barriques. The second wine is called "Château La Tour-Védrines". A red wine is produced under "La Tour-Védrines".
