Bordeaux: Harvest began September 19th. Anti-mildew treatments were starting coming into effect at this point with the arrival of the Bordeaux Mixture, and the wines were clean and healthy, and largely well-structured. Only a half crop, but better quality than the previous few years. A new law introduced on December 1 of this year obliged winegrowers to declare any new plantings.

Port Vintage Report: Queen Victoria’s Jubilee” Vintage, hot summer, vintages took place under ideal conditions, with warm days and cool nights. All companies declared production. Some considered this to be one of the best years of the 19th Century, comparable to 1834. Scarce production.
