The Story

Pinotage was the very rst wine made at Beaumont wines and 20 years later we are still passionate Pinotage producers! 80% of the fruit comes from our 40 year old vines providing dryness and structure while the younger portion provides lovely vibrant fruit. Our style re ects the cooler climate of the Bot River region. Harvested between early February and late March the grapes are then crushed into open concrete fermenters. Punched down 3-4 times per day until end of ferment, then pressed and taken to barrels for 14 months. Fresh red berry fruit with a deliciously drinkable medium body and well integrated tannins.

Grapes were harvested and crushed directly into concrete fermentation. Controlled temperatures allow for an optimum extraction period. Regular punch downs were done to assure good colour and tannin structure. The wine matured for 18 months in 100% French oak, 35% of which was new oak.

A perfect example of elegance and nesse in Pinotage. Red of excellent balance, structure and a lovely dry nish. Berries, plums and cherries on the nose, followed by a palate

Wine Information

Beaumont is situated on the western side of the Bot River Valley, 8 km from the ocean. The property surrounds the town of Bot River. The vineyards are planted on ancient shale soils with beautiful gravely top soils that have a heavy clay base and are great for moisture storage. These low vigor soils have been producing wines for the past 80 – 100 yrs. The property dates back to the 1750’s when it was primarily an outpost farm for travelers to rest and replenish stocks. At the turn of the previous century the first wines were made in what is now a historical winery using modern wine making techniques to produce elegant, complex wines that capture the essence of the property and the region.
