Wine Information
Bodega Norton
Astonished at the characteristics of the place, and driven by a visionary spirit, in 1895, English Engineer Mr. Edmund J.P. Norton planted the first vines importing them from France, thereby giving origin to what, at that time, was the first winery in the South of Mendoza river. The estate winery is located in the foothills of the Andes, at altitudes ranging between 850 to 1100 m. above sea level.
In 1989, Austrian businessman Mr. Gernot Langes Swarovski, travelled to Mendoza and experienced the same astonishment for the Region’s beauty, its people’s warmth, and the exceptional conditions for vine growing. Based on his intuition and belief of the high potential that viniculture represented in Argentina, he bought Norton winery with the firm purpose o making wines that are recognized for their Quality worldwide.
When executing such project, he appointed his son Michael, who, together with a team of professionals started an investment, revamping and growth phase. In that way, the incorporation of state-of-the-art technology together with the knowledge and passion of its people, have made Norton become the first brand in exports and one of the most important Wineries in Argentina.
Quality that is born in every vine
At Norton Winery we are convinced that wine is born in the vineyard, and that is the reason why from that place our vineyard manager and winemaker work in a team combining their knowledge and hand-craft spirit with state-of-the-art technology.
By means of an innovative method called mapping the practice “vineyard inside the vineyard” is applied. For that, vineyards are divided into small parcels so as to work each of them in a specific and individual manner, thereby obtaining their full potential.
Due to differences as to soil, age and type of plant within each parcel, this system enables the execution of a “Wine project” that results in products recognized worldwide for their quality and style.
Our 5 farms have over 1200 ha, fit for growing vines, out of which 680ha are currently planted. Over 150 families of vineyard workers live and work there, sharing secrets and experience from generation to generation. This knowledge and passion for their work, in combination with the professionalism of the team of agriculturist engineers result in products with excellence.
Bodega Norton is the first to have three quality assurance certificates in Argentina, and one of the few to have achieved this worldwide.
