The Story

R.D. (Recently Disgorged) is the result of a great vision of Madame Bollinger, R.D. is a magnification of the very best that the Champagne region’s terroir has to offer. R.D. starts as a Grande Année, the prestige cuvée of Bollinger, and is allowed to mature for an extra 8 to 20 years, sometimes more. This special aging allows the wine to maintain a unique combination of freshness and vivacity, while developing delicate and complex aromas. The result is a unique style of its own that is highly acclaimed by Bollinger lovers and true wine connoisseurs. The disgorgement date - clearly stated on the back label - is informational. It does not mean that R.D. should be consumed soon afterwards. Much to the contrary, the R.D. wines are characterized by an impressive capacity to age, not only before, but also after the date of disgorgement.

Written Notes

The march of Bollingers continued with a 1961 Bollinger RD, disgorged in 1972. The nose was clean, young and fresh with rich vanilla aromas that carried over to the palate. There was a lot of seltzer intensity to the finish in this excellent RD

Good looking magnum size bottle, in an excellent condition and level is 4cm ullage below the cork. Colour is gold, and looking bright, deep and mature. On the nose it is open, intense, opulent, ripe and generous. The taste is ripe, vigor, fragrant, toasty, refined, firm, with silky tannins, medium-bodied, with balanced, complex and well-integrated structure. On the palate it is layered and has creamy, dried-fruit, nutty, vanilla, chocolate, citrus, raspberry and white fruits flavours. The finish is medium long, extensive, lingering and vibrant. This wine is transparent, fine and excellent. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 15min before tasting.
