The Story

100% Chardonnay from the prime, Grand Cru villages of Cramant, Oger and Mesnil sur Oger, the 10 years it spent gently maturing on its lees has imparted a finesse of mousse and intensity of flavour that are captivating.

With a fine, toasty, lemon-scented bouquet, the palate is tightly knit, rich and full of energy, the mousse being mouth-coating and creamily textured. Pull the cork on this now to enjoy it at its most vivacious, fragrant and uplifting; cellar some bottles for 5 years for to allow the body to broaden and the layers of flavour to emerge.

Vintage 1998

This year's harvest is the largest the region has ever seen. Every corner of the appellation has managed to achieve the maximum authorized harvest yield of 10,400 kilos of grapes per hectare. Producers were also allowed to harvest an additional 2,600 kg which was allocated to the Champagne reserve, called blocking. This led to 330 million bottles of champagne being made in total. The lock-in system (which allows more production than necessary to meet demand) was the main tool for maintaining a stable price level in the 1990s.

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is gold and light. On the nose it is open, intense, fresh, complex and round. The taste is refined, focused, and dry, and average in acidity, light, with concentrated, well-structured and balanced structure. On the palate it is layered and has white fruits, nutty, honey and waxy flavours. The finish is long. This wine is transparent and fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 1-5 years.
