The Story

The “Vin des Princes” range from Champagne de Venoge marks the renaissance of one of its most emblematic cuvees: the Grand Vin des Princes. Established in 1837 at Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, the Champagne house de Venoge is characterized by its aristocratic tradition (with its motto “Noblesse oblige” and its blue riband, the insignia of the Order of the Saint Esprit bestowed by King Henry the Third, that appears on its Cordon Bleu bottles), by its extraordinary vinotheque giving Champagne lovers access to old vintages, and by its luxury cuvees, in particular the Louis XV range of vintage Champagne.

Rosé, Blanc de Blancs or Blanc de Noirs, the new “Vin des Princes” range was inspired by one of the Champagne house’s historic references, the Grand Vin des Princes and its emblematic bottle in the form of a carafe. The history of the Grand Vin des Princes is intimately linked to that of Champagne. Created in 1851 exclusively for the Princes of Orange, it became accessible to all connoisseurs of great Champagne from 1858 onwards. The name was protected by copyright in 1864 on the creation of INPI, the French National Intellectual Property Register. A succession of legendary vintages followed, raising the Grand Vin des Princes to the status of a French luxury icon, particularly appreciated at the time by Sarah Bernhard, the Countesss of Ségur and the Princess de Ligne. From 1961 to 1993 the Grand Vin des Princes was the most prestigious of de Venoge’s cuvees; a place today occupied by the cuvee Louis XV. And de Venoge have accomplished a renaissance of the Grand Vin des Princes in this new range “Vin des Princes”.

We have rekindled an element of our history; a cuvee that existed but now with a more contemporary approach, with younger wines that have more emphasis on freshness” says Gilles Morisson de la Bassetière (CEO).

The “Vin des Princes” range is composed of three non-vintage Champagne (Rosé, Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs), in the same carafe shaped bottle as the cuvee Louis XV, in an immaculate presentation. A pale, delicate rosé characterized by its finesse and explosive red fruit aromas made with the addition of 5% red wine from Les Riceys. A 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs, the larger part of which is from Mesnil-sur-Oger, dosed at 6 grams with superb tension and notes of candied peach. And a 100% Pinot Noir Blanc de Noirs from Verzy, Verzenay and Les Riceys; a full, round and well-structured Champagne whose vinosity is ideal for gastronomic pairings. Today the “Vin des Princes” range – interposed between Cordon Bleu and Louis XV – offers de Venoge excellence to top restaurants and wine boutiques.
