The Story

Winemaker Kevin Mitchell has set a new benchmark with the Covenant Shiraz. This wine has been created to perfectly express the Clare Valley’s terroir and varietal individuality. Beautifully lifted notes of licorice, cedary oak and ripe, spicy plums flood the senses followed by dark chocolate and spice on the palate with quality oak and natural fine grained tannins.

The Kilikanoon Covenant is based on Shiraz from six vineyards throughout the Leasingham Valley, with each being fermented separately, basket pressed and aged for 22 months in a combination of new and older French and American small oak casks.

Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is ruby red and deep. On the nose it is open, intense, youthful, fresh and ripe. The taste is round, harmonious, fruity, silky, with sweet tannins, silky tannins, and average in acidity, full-bodied, with balanced and well-integrated structure. On the palate it is layered and has blackberry, spice, raspberry, licorice, smoky, mint, violet and blueberry flavours. The finish is medium long, gentle, round and flavorful. This wine is well-rounded,a good every wine and a mouthfilling. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 1-5 years and decant at least 2h before tasting.
