The Story

Turkey Flat Vineyards Shiraz vines are an integral part of the Barossa Valley’s history. Shiraz vines, thought to be from the Busby collection were planted in 1847 by Johann Frederick August Fiedler on Lot 1 in the Hundred of Moorooroo (now Bethany Road, Tanunda). Lot 1 was purchased by the Schulz family in the 1860s, where they tended to the vines, as well as setting up a thriving butcher’s business.

It was the vine-pull scheme of 1987 that was the impetus for the current generation of the family, led by Christie Schulz, to save this important piece of history. Thus Turkey Flat Vineyards was born, with the first vintage in 1990.

Our style:
Composed & meticulously crafted, this wine shows the true worth of old-vine Barossa shiraz. An elegant yet powerful wine, it is approachable in youth, yet will cellar for many years.

The Vineyards:
Playing with the notion of sub-regionality, this wine is the result of blending parcels of Shiraz from different Barossa Valley vineyards.  Recent additional shiraz plantings on the Turkey Flat estates in Bethany and Stonewell have been taken from cuttings of the original Ancestor vines from 1847.

Our winemaking:
This Shiraz is a result of a very intricate blending process. After each parcel of fruit is individually vinified & aged in specially selected French oak barrels, the final blend is created with careful consideration to upholding its reputation for cellaring gracefully, retaining its freshness and balance for many years.
