2011 WHITES by Daniel Haas

2011 MONTAGNY PREMIER CRU
13 natural alcohol. Very forest floor and resined on the nose. A bit of vanilla bean and spearmint, nice perfume, and quite elegant for the appellation. 17.2/20

2011 RULLY PREMIER CRU MEIX CADOT
There were serious production problems due to hail, so only 20% of a normal crop was produced in 2011. A ripe nose with more power than the Montagny. There are some baked apple and apple skin elements. This wine is easy to drink, very lemony and citric with an orange creamsicle finish. 17.5/20

2011 MEURSAULT LES CHARRONS
A ripe nose. Thick in texture, very oily – typical Meursault. White chocolate, peach and mint fruit along with pear extract; silky yet high-toned acidity to balance on the finish. 17.7/20

2011 MEURSAULT LES PELLANSNot tasted.

2011 PULIGNY-MONTRACHET PREMIER CRU SOUS LE PUITS
Typical Puligny with grilled almonds on the nose. Quite lush on the palate, with some smoke and flinty mineral elements; salt, allspice, lemon butter and bananas on the finish. 18.1/20

2011 BOURGOGNE
A very advanced nose at this stage. Candied fruit, very sweet crystallized sugar and a mint ice cream finish. 17.3/20

2011 PULIGNY-MONTRACHET VILLAGES
A mineral, witch hazel nose. Stony, smoky and toasty with lemon and vanilla extract fruit. Creamy, with citrus and a lemon meringue finish. 18/20

2011 PULIGNY-MONTRACHET PREMIER CRU LA GARENNE
A sweet, fresh, ripe nose. Also ripe on the palate – flavors of tropical banana and pineapple. Sweet, crystallized sugar, some ginger and rock candy, and side acids. This has a very juicy finish. 18.3/20

2011 PULIGNY-MONTRACHET PREMIER CRU REFERTS
The ripest nose so far. Heavy fruit on the palate, along with apple skin and butterscotch. Round and silky with some nectarine fruit, too. A well-rounded finish. 18.4/20

2011 PULIGNY-MONTRACHET PREMIER CRU CHAMP-CANET
An extremely ripe and classy nose with mineral, as well. On the palate abundant marzipan/almond paste flavors. Sweet without residual sugar. Banana, white chocolate and macadamia nut on the finish. 18.5/20

2011 PULIGNY-MONTRACHET PREMIER CRU LES COMBETTESThe ripest nose, the most exotic and most powerful – classy, like a Grand Cru. On the palate, butterscotch candy; lots of power and finesse. Very easy to drink, has advanced, sneaky power with lemon custard and crème brûlée on the finish. 18.8/20

2011 PULIGNY-MONTRACHET PREMIER CRU LA TRUFFIÈRE
125 case made. Very classy nose. On the palate, sweet sugared ruby red grapefruit, toasted coconut and lemon cream flavors. Long on the palate, very pure and refined and finishes with a confectioners sugar element. 18.9/20

2011 BÂTARD-MONTRACHET GRAND CRU
The biggest, most powerful nose. Candied lemon fruit – a lemon tart. Very grapey, too, with a good amount of oak but powerful enough to hold up to it. Fat in texture, with nice lively acids that drive the flavors home on the finish. 19.1/20

History

Jean-Marc Boillot was one of the younger generation in Burgundy who was determined to improve his family’s wines. In 1984, after vinifying 13 vintages at the family’s domaine Henri Boillot, Jean-Marc walked out in protest, intent on producing highly concentrated, rich and ripe wines. He became the winemaker for Olivier Leflaive for the next four years and at the same time produced wines from 5 acres of vineyards, bottled under his own label. The wines impressed Boillot’s grandfather, who bequest half his vineyard to Jean-Marc. Boillot runs his domaine from his grandfather Henri Boillot’s house and cellars in the village of Pommard. Jean-Marc’s maternal grandfather was the late Etienne Sauzet, from whom he also inherited exceptional vineyards.

Vineyards

Jean-Marc also inherited exceptional vineyards from his maternal grandfather, Etienne Sauzet. Today his domaine includes nearly 25 acres of vines in Bourgogne, Volnay, Beaune, Pommard, Puligny-Montrachet and Batard-Montrachet. J.M. Boillot has developed a stellar reputation for the quality of his reds and whites alike.
