The Clos du Moulin Brut is an exceptional champagne, and the ideal accompaniment to duck (with orange sauce or Peking) or delicate red meats, such as a rack or tajine of lamb. It will also pair beautifully with cheeses such as mature Comté, Tomme aux Fleurs or Bleu de Gers, or softer cheeses like Beaufort or Bleu de Bresse.

The Story

This unique rich and full flavoured Champagne is always a blend of wines from three vintages from one of the few remaining Clos of Champagne, a unique prestige cuvee, 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir.

There is a strictly limited production of approximately 20,000 bottles per year. A slightly coppery golden colour. A discreet, delicate nose. Subtly vinous with unobtrusive strength. Red berry, fresh butter and brioche aromas. A full, long finish.

A very special aperitif. Its richness means that it may be served with a variety of foods: foie gras, game, seafood, fish, smoked salmon, white or even red meat. Presented in a stylish and chic rigid Cattier branded black gift box with gold foil logo windmill "moulin" image.  A really special unique gift for the Champagne lover.

Wine Information

Covering just 2.2 hectares, the Clos du Moulin is one of Champagne’s two historic walled vineyards and is located on the sunny slopes of the Montagne de Reims near Chigny-les-Roses. The expert team at Cattier has taken three vintages, selected for their ability to age gracefully, and blended them into a wine which reflects their unique origins. The Clos du Moulin Rosé is a single-vineyard champagne and an expression of eleganceand fruit. Each bottle has its own unique number.

Written Notes

Bright, slightly evolved straw yellow colour. Complex nose with brioche and oak combined with some yeastiness, apricots, and apples pips. Bone-dry palate is fresh and pure. Crisp and complex with zesty finish. Still bit reserved palate. Benefits from further cellaring for 4-5 years. This cuvee was a blend of 2007, 2008, and 2009 vintages. JL 87p (9/9/2020)

According to the back label, vintages in this bottle are 1993, 1995 and 1996. The Clos du Moulin is always a blend of the 3 best vintages. Very fine but with a slightly sluggish bead. Complex wine nose. Demands attention but has a pretty aggressive acid.

Inside Information

Eyes : the colour is golden, with hints of amber. The abundant ne bubbles form an elegant chain through the centre of the glass.

Nose : elegance and forest fruits (blackcurrant, blueberry, raspberry and blackberry) interwoven with nutty and spicy notes (gingerbread, cinnamon and clove). The aromas are given structure and poise by the champagne’s mineral notes.

Palate : beautifully rich, opening brightly with aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant. These give way to delicate notes of gingerbread, cinnamon, clove and vanilla. The finish is long and elegant, ending on vanilla, liquorice, dried fig and prune.
