Vintage 2010

2010 HARVEST

A cool year of extremes, with a snowfall on 9 March, which we shall never forget. The season began with a very rainy month of October and a warm autumn, which allowed the leaves to remain on the vines for a long time. Thus, the vines were able to charge up their reserves properly. The winter was long and cold. We started pruning on 10 December. The spring was cool and rainy and the heat did not arrive until August. Thirty litres of rain fell on 12 August, which helped replenish the soil's water reserve. We began the harvest on 18 August and, fortunately, we had one month without rain in order to pick practically all the grapes on the estate. Then, on 17 September, 58 litres of rain fell and we had to hurry to pick all the Parellada grapes. During the agricultural year (October 2009 to October 2010), we collected 700 litres of water compared with 526 litres on average over the previous 10 years, and the average temperature was 14.4ºC compared with 15.3ºC during the previous 10 years. An excellent vintage with great potential for ageing.
