Abbotts & Delaunay

Laurent Delaunay is a passionate winemaker who has become a recognized specialist in Languedoc wines through his wine-merchant business, Badet Clément & Cie, which he founded in 1995. He represents the fifth generation of a Burgundian family of producers and negociants.

Convinced by the tremendous potential of the Languedoc's terroirs, he acquired Abbotts, a winery created in 1996 in Marseillette, near Carcassonne in south-western France, by the young and talented Australian winemaker, Nerida Abbott. Won over by the region and the diversity of its terroirs, and driven by great diligence and perfectionism, she relentlessly worked to produce the finest wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon's appellations.

Quest for perfection, inspiration and thoroughness are the key terms to describe the spirit shared by these two demanding and passionate winemakers. In the interest of perpetuating this philosophy, we decided to name our recent and entirely updated collection after both of them : Abbotts & Delaunay.

Set between the steep slopes of the Pyrenees, the foothills of the Cévennes, the Mediterranean coast and the right bank of the Rhone River, the vineyards of the Languedoc benefit from an incredible diversity of soil types and climates.

aurent Delaunay knows these terroirs like the back of his hand, having travelled extensively throughout the region in search of small plots of old vines growing at high altitudes in some of the region's finest appellations:
Corbières, Minervois, Faugères, Limoux...
 

Rounded stones shaped by torrents swollen by powerful Cevenol storms, sandstone, marls, limestone scree and schist compose the sun-baked, windswept terraces which characterize the harsh natural environment in which the grapes that give our wines their powerful character and Mediterranean typicity are the only form of vegetation that thrive.
