History

The d'Aulan family produces wines in several wine-growing regions around the world, from France - the country of origin - to Hungary and Argentina, where they created Alta Vista in 1998, in the search of the greatest qualities of two emblematic varieties: Malbec and Torrontés. The result is the perfect combination of French savoir faire and Argentinean passion.

Vineyards

We know great wines are produced in unique places and that is why our plantations are based on the best terroirs of Mendoza and Salta: 209 hectares divided into five vineyards, all of which are one thousand meters above sea level. Each of them receives a specific treatment, and we call this Terroir Management.

Alizarine Vineyard

Las Compuertas, in Luján de Cuyo, is one of our most valued plantations, because of its privileged location in the mouth of the Mendoza River, from the mountain to the plain. 1050 meters above sea level, it provides the perfect temperature range, humidity, luminosity and silt clay loam soils. 14 hectares are planted with 80-year-old Malbec grapes.

Serenade Vineyard

Alto Agrelo, in Luján de Cuyo, is a deserted area with a wide temperature range. 1050 meters above sea level, we have 74 hectares of vineyards with up to 40-year-old plants, cultivated in very poor clay-loamy soil, which hide a 4-metre deep bed of stones.

Azamor Vineyard

Las Compuertas, in Luján de Cuyo, is our recent acquisition. It was bought in September 2007 and it has 9 hectares, 1062 meters above sea level. The area is excellent to cultivate Malbec grapes because of its luminosity, wide temperature range and poor soils.

Temis Vineyard

El Cepillo, in Valle de Uco, shelters our most southern and extreme vineyard. Not for its height – 1020 meters above sea level – but because it has the coldest climate in Mendoza for vine cultivation, and sandy loam soil with an 80-cm deep layer of caliche, a sandy substance. Here, the conditions of Campo de los Andes are reproduced, but it is even more exposed. We have 19 hectares planted with 70-year-old Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo grapes.

Albaneve Vineyard

Campo de los Andes, in Valle de Uco, is one of the coldest and highest areas in Mendoza to cultivate vine. The secret is its location at the foot of Cordón del Portillo, with 5000-metre tops; such condition produces a wide temperature range between day and night, and a shadow cone in the late-afternoon protects the area from the intensity of the sun. We have 132 hectares of which 92 are planted with Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay grapes.

Cafayate Vineyard

Valles Calchaquíes, in Salta, with 1220 wild hectares, from 2000 to 2300 meters above sea level. It is one of the most fascinating valleys of the Argentinean wine. It stands out from all the rest because of its height, Andean desert and tropical location. The region is the key in the production of great torrontés grapes.

Winemaking

The winery is in the heart of Chacras de Coria, 15 km south of Mendoza city. It is a historical edifice built in 1899, fully restored in 2003, and with all the cutting-edge vine-growing technology. The technical systems are versatile, making an "haute couture" job possible in every wine range. The winery stands out from all the rest because of its small tanks, which enable the production of high-quality wines. The cellars, the most beautiful in South America, shelter Alta Vista wine barrels.

European inheritance, aging is an important factor in the production of great wines. Ours are aged with or without wood for a minimum of 12 months. After the fractional process, they are stowed into bottles for at least 3 months before they are dispatched. Some, like Alto, spend thirty six months in our cellar before being dispatched.

Inside information

Alta Vista's medium-to-long-term goal is carbon neutrality. In a step-by-step process, we have implemented different measures to achieve it. Our carbon footprint will be audited by an European organization between January and March 2013.
