History

The Bava Family has grown grape vines in this territory since 1600 and in 1911 in the very same area the family built their first wine cellar. Since then, over a hundred vintages have gone by, with four generations following one another. The best Bava Barberas are renowned in the world thanks to their high quality."

Today, the family estate extends in Monferrato and Langa, with twenty hectares of natural fields and woods and fifty-five vineyards, cultivated with the same awareness, care and attention of the olden times resulting in a sustainable agriculture with a reduced environmental impact.

Walking along the Bava vineyards, you will notice the grass clippings and the prunings used as natual fertilizers, the poles, all strictly made of wood coming from renewable forests or grassing between vine rows, which not only helps prevent soil erosion, but also serves as proof that no hebicides are used.

Vineyards

The Bava Family grows, with natural methods, vineyards in the farmhouses of Castiglione Falletto, Agliano, Cioccaro di Penango and Cocconato, where excellent wines are produced.

In Cocconato, in the Pieve farmhouse, Barbera, Albarossa and white grapes are grown. The only vineyards with international grapes are those around Relais of Sant'Uffizio in Cioccaro di Penango, where Barbera, Sauvignon, Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay are also grown. The grapes for Nizza, Barbera Libera and Grignolino are from Agliano, from the vineyards of the Pianoalto of Crena farmhouse.

In Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the cru Scarrone, the Bava Family owns, amidst the vineyards, a modern cellar devoted to Barolo and Dolcetto d'Alba.

Inside information

We believe, just like many people before us, that there will be no future without agriculture ("Pas d'avenir sans agriculture", our French cousins say). Over the years we have collected our ideas for healthier and more sustainable vine growing and winemaking: this is the Manifesto which inspires our actions every day, in vineyard as well as in the wine cellar. It is a collection of stories, our stories, with the unmistakable beauty of real life.
