History

Rotari represents the Trentodoc, a Metodo Classico process involving a particularly long aging on the yeast that results in the finest, most persisting perlage, and a great organoleptic complexity. The stile of Rotari is unmistakable: the bubbles are intense and fragrant, elegant and refined, with aromas of bread, golden apples which make it optimal for pairing with Italian and International cuisine.

Rotari was created in the heart of the Dolomites, in the 6,000 acres of vineyards of the agricultural property of Mezzacorona. Trentino acts as a cradle with its peaks and deep valleys, its lakes and forests, its mountain climate and fresh breezes design the perfect environment for the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Here, the Chardonnay expresses its fresh and fruity character in the best way, while the Pinot Noir succeeds in contributing a particular structure and richness.

This is the purest of environments in which the perfect combination of grapes, terrain, and variety of microclimates gives life to the elegant and intense bubbles that are the expression of the Trentodoc.

Somewhere between story and legend, Rotari took its name from the Lombard “King Rotari”, who conducted many military campaigns in Trentino and brought almost all of Northern Italy under the dominion of Lombard Reign. The Memory of Rotari is tied most importantly to the Edict, proclaimed in the year 643, with which the king encoded the Lombard Law, which has lasted to present day only spoken by word of mouth.

Vineyards

In the heart of the Dolomites lie the 6,000 acres of vineyards that are under the ownership of Mezzacorona, the vintners' association which created Rotari. The cool winds, the mixed climate that blends the mountainous conditions of the north and the temperate conditions of the Lake of Garda in the south, and the range of temperature represent the ideal environment for the cultivation of the grapes that make Rotari: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Here in the hilly regions of Trentino, the Chardonnay expresses its fresh and fruity characteristics in the best way and the Pinot Noir succeeds in giving a particular structure and richness.

The vineyards are cultivated and kept with the care and dedication of associated farmers and of the agronomists from the Rotari Winery, guaranteeing daily attention in every season, until the final selection and harvesting of the grapes.

The form of farming that is used in the vineyards is the “Pergola Doppia trentina”, that bestows to the land its characteristic resemblance to a flowing wave. This also gives to the terrain a harmonious and unmistakable quality. This type of farming allows the product to obtain the optimal acidity and a good structure to the base wines, that will eventually give life to the elegance and refinement of the Sparkling Rotari Wines.
