Domaine Philippe Colin

The domaine was created in 2004, when both Philippe and his brother Bruno decided to go their separate ways and set up on their own. Philippe built himself a smart new cuverie on the outskirts of the village and hasn’t looked back. He has some cracking vineyards at his disposal, including some Chevalier-Montrachet. Philippe’s range offers something for everyone. At the lower end he produces wines which drink beautifully after a couple of years in bottle, whilst his top wines age with all the grace one could hope for.

He recently held a vertical tasting of all his Chevaliers to celebrate his tenth anniversary and the quality was terrific. His village wine sees about 20/25% new oak and thankfully is wonderfully approachable in youth, especially texturally. The 1ers Crus see around 35% new oak. The Chenevottes is the oldest plot with vines at around eighty years of age. These are delightful wines that offer much pleasure.

A nine hectare domaine, which produces elegant wines with complexity, which tend to age extremely well.

A long, wandering village in the Côte de Beaune. Fortunately, what the workaday village lacks in charm, the wines more than make up for. Most famous for its white wines, which are lovely and delicate, Chassagne-Montrachet actually produces more red than white wine. It is one of the few places in the Côte D'Or where both red and white wines are produced from Premier Cru vineyards. The Grands Crus are Montrachet, Bâtard Montrachet (both shared with the neighboring village of Puligny) and Criots Bâtard Montrachet.
