History
In 1936 Karoline and Gustav Feiler bought the beautiful baroque house on Hauptstrasse 3 in the center of the picturesque old wine town Rust. The second generation was represented by Hans and Inge Feiler and Gertrude Artinger (the sister of Hans). Therefore the winery became its double name “Feiler-Artinger”. Today Katrin and Kurt Feiler (son of Hans and Inge) are running the business of 29 hectars of vineyards.
The picturesque „free town“ Rust is located on the west bench of lake Neusiedler See. The village is surrounded by a chain of hills, the so called “Ruster Hügelland”. On the south-east facing slopes of these hills the vineyards have great soils and a unique micro climate. In 8 of 10 years the so called noble rot “botrytis cinerea” occurs and attacks the ripe grapes. These shrivel and the sugar and acidity is concentrated. Rust is therefore famous for its “Ruster Trilogie” - top dry white wines, outstanding red wines and world class sweet wines with the “Ruster Ausbruch” on top. In 1681 8 wine producers paid 60.000 golden guilders and 500 buckets (each 20 litres) of “Ruster Ausbruch” to the emperor Leopold I. to get for their town the right to be a “free town”.
