History

The story of the Gabriel Meffre Winery began in 1936, when Gabriel and his wife, both passionate about wine, created their ‘Négociant-Vinificateur’ business in Gigondas.
Almost 80 years later, the family business has built on its strong foundations and has established its reputation as a leading Winery in the southern Rhone Valley, with the complementary know-how linked to being both ‘Négociant-Eleveur’ and Producer, recognised for the quality of its wines.

The Winery has innovated and grown over the years. Now, it encompasses all aspects of the wine business. It owns the Domaine de Longue Toque Estate in Gigondas - 27 ha of AOP Gigondas, Vacqueyras, and Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu - and manages the Château Grand Escalion Vineyard in the Costières de Nîmes winegrowing area - 44 ha of AOP Costières de Nîmes and Varietal Wines. Both vineyards apply the principles of reasoned viticulture according to the Terra Vitis® charter.
The Winery perpetuates the spirit and traditions of its founders through strong values: a passion for wine, respect for the environment and terroirs, a spirit of innovation, and knowledge-sharing which fosters the creation of close and lasting ties with its winemaking partners.

The Winery is also very much involved in the local community. It has been a major sponsor of the “Festival d’Avignon” (theater festival) since 2011, partners numerous events in Gigondas and regularly displays the work of local artists in its Wine Cellar.
Since 2009, the story continues with Eric Brousse, CEO of the Winery and a renowned figure in the world of wine, together with Etienne Maffre, Assistant Managing Director, who arrived in 1996 as Technical Director. They are pursuing the work begun by their predecessors whilst giving the business new impetus in certain key directions: strong growth in its export markets (our wines are present in 50 countries) thanks to quality brands adapted to consumers’ needs; consolidation of the French market, particularly in the on-trade sector. Today, the Winery is firmly established as a reference in southern Rhone Valley wines.
