History

The House of Laurent-Perrier was founded in 1812 by André Michel Pierlot and took the name Vve Laurent-Perrier when Mathilde Emilie Perrier, the widow of Eugène Laurent, combined the two family names after she decided to expand the business. Eugénie Hortense Laurent, her daughter, inherited the House in 1925 and sold it to Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt in 1939.

During WWII, Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt ran the business while two of her sons, Maurice and Bernard, joined the French Resistance. In 1945, Bernard de Nonancourt began an exacting apprenticeship, learning every aspect of winemaking from vine to cellar, before his appointment in October 1948 as Chairman and Chief Executive. At that point, the House was employing around 20 people and shipping 80,000 bottles a year.

Fired by a passion for champagne, a respect for traditional values and, most importantly, for people, Bernard de Nonancourt inspired Laurent-Perrier with his independent spirit and creative audacity. He established privileged working relationships with the grape growers and cleverly combined innovation and tradition. He created the signature Laurent-Perrier style of freshness, lightness and elegance and developed a unique range of champagnes which are today exported to 147 countries worldwide.

Richard Juhlin / The number One champagne expert in the world, Pro (Sweden)  tasted  1 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  29 wines

Many prestige champagnes debuted in 1959 vintage, for example, Dom Ruinart and Pol Roger Blanc de Chardonnay. A large harvest of champagnes, that often ended up above 13 percent alcohol because of the extremely hot summer. The wines have proven to be very sustainable, despite the low acid. Power and concentration are great regardless if the wines are dominated by Chardonnay or pinot noir. A wonderful champagne year in its style!

Juha Jormanainen, Wine Writer (Finland)  tasted  1 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  7 wines

Graham Vintage Port 1963 / Clear but not very intensive red color, broad nose with aromas of red berries, strawberry and arctic bramble. On palate strong but still gentle, elegant wine with loads of berries, chocolate and plum – very, very, very long and lovely aftertaste. This is my favorite port for Christmas, if I don’t have Quinta 63 Nacional. If you have opportunity to buy a bottle under 300 euros, don’t think a second. Beautiful women just love this wine… Points 96.

Richard Juhlin / The number One champagne expert in the world, Pro (Sweden)  tasted  1 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  25 wines

“Paul Bara Special Club 2004 / Goodness gracious, what a surprise I received when I poured my club bottle and the wine was deep pink! I had absolutely no idea that there was such a thing as Special Club Rosé nowadays! One can only offer one's congratulations. The wine is very reminiscent of the non-vintage variety with somewhat greater weight, and refinement rich in mineral. Otherwise it gives the feeling of being just as young and unevolved. The fruitiness is vegetal with tones of beetroot and the beginnings of intense tones of wild bird pâté. When the wine is aired a great Pinot roundness makes its appearance.”

Pekka Nuikki / Founder of the Fine Wine Magazines, Pro (Finland)  tasted  2 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  24 wines

“Philipponnat Clos des Goisses 2002 - Moderately pale yellow colour with lively bubbles. Rich is the nose as well, with ripe fruity and toasty aromas that set this wine’s nose near perfection. Very rich, round and ripe taste is enhanced by monumental acidity. Promising youngish wine with great harmony. Great future ahead although very enjoyable already now.”

Pekka Nuikki / Founder of the Fine Wine Magazines, Pro (Finland)  tasted  1 wines  from  Laurent-Perrier . In a tasting of  13 wines

“One of the best Italian white wine I have ever tasted: Monteverro Chardonnay 2013 / Pale, medium-golden yellow. Very refined nose. Flowery bouquet, with buttery, pecan and walnut aromas and restrained creamy oak. Beautiful sweetness and satin structure as it strikes the palate. Ripe fruit is buttery-edged with greengage and citrus favours. Taste is firm and endless with beautiful layers of fruit and unctuous texture, giving a real succulence on the mid-palate. The commanding finish has good length through a lively acidity. A charming, very elegant wine now, but should cellar very well. -Bravo! 95 points”
