History

In 1903 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Alexandre de Mayol de Lupé and Félix de Cholet decided to join forces to create the House which still bears their name, Lupe Cholet. "To bring together the best of soil, vine and human skill to produce wines of unique personality" was their motto and is still ours today.

Owners of 25 hectares (61,5 acres) of vineyards in Chablis and the Côte d’Or, we also have long-established partnerships with various wine growers throughout Burgundy. In the vineyards, our team selects the best grapes destined for vinification in our cellars at Château du Clos de Lupé. Careful selection of the grapes, light pressing, partial or total de-stemming, cold maceration prior to fermentation are the techniques used to imprint our style on our wines. : rich and complex wines, redolent of ripe fruits which progressively reveal themselves at each stage in their evolution.

We are open to the world and ready to adapt to each situation ; we propose today a full range of the most prestigious appellations of our region. We export our wines to more than 35 countries all over the world.

Vineyards

The Cote de Nuits wines are all fermented at the historic Lupé-Cholet cellars in the centre of Nuits-St-Georges. Estate holdings include both red and white vineyards around the beautiful Château Gris (which belongs to the company), on steep terraces above the town of Nuits, as well as the Clos de Lupé, the original walled vineyard surrounding the cellars in Nuits.
Other estate vineyards are found in Vosne Romanée (just above Echezeaux), Savigny, Aloxe-Corton, Beaune, and Pommard (just below the village).
The Chablis estate "Château de Viviers" is headquartered in Viviers, 12km east of Chablis town. The wines - all from estate-owned grapes - are vinified in Chablis.
Lupé-Cholet take advantage of the modern Bichot installations at Beaune to finish ageing, and perform bottling of all their wines.

Various complex variants of stony clay-limestone in the Cote d'Or, the classic kimmeridgian chalk in Chablis.

Inside information

"Our desire is to produce wines with harmony and balance thus ensuring the greatest possible pleasure for those who discover them" Winemaker Cyrille Jacquelin of Lupé-Cholet
In 1903 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Alexandre de Mayol de Lupé and Félix de Cholet joined forces to create the House which still bears their name, Lupé Cholet. Their adage « To combine the best of soil, vine and human skill to produce wines of unique personality » remains as relevant today as it was in 1903.

Today Lupé Cholet owns 25 hectares of prime vineyards in the Côte d’Or and Chablis as well as benefitting from long-established partnerships with various wine growers throughout Burgundy. This means that Lupé Cholet is perfectly positioned to offer one of the most extensive and highest quality portfolios in Burgundy.
Only the very finest grapes are carefully selected for vinification in their beautiful 13th Century cellars at Château du Clos de Lupé in Nuits St Georges. Hand-picking, gentle pressing, partial or total de-stemming and cold maceration prior to fermentation are some of the techniques used to impart an elegant, feminine style to their wines. A house style that produces silky, complex wines with seductive ripe fruit aromas that progressively reveal themselves at each stage in their evolution
