History

A passion for good wine is what makes our winery so special and has continued to do since it was founded in 1920. As one of the largest wineries in Germany, our company headquarters are in Bingen, Germany. Our winery remains in family ownership and is now under the watchful eye of the third generation.

Our main production areas in Germany are the Pfalz, Moselle and Rheinhessen regions, where we have estates in Böchingen, Leiwen, Gau-Bickelheim and Bingen. The grapes we use are supplied by more than 300 contracted growers with whom we have enjoyed long and fruitful partnerships. Thus we are able to guarantee the consistently high quality of our wines. On our estate in Romania, the Carl Reh Winery, we cultivate around 250 hectares of vineyards.

Besides importing international estate-bottled wine brands, we also promote German wines throughout the world. People in more than 35 countries enjoy our Black Tower brand: with more than 15 million bottles sold each year, this is the most successful German wine brand in the world. We are equally well-known for our high-quality wine brands, as well as for being a trusted trade partner in the premium own-label range.

Inside information

The quality of our wines can be discerned through their full flavour, pleasing aroma and fresh colours. In all phases of wine production, we maintain a strict focus on national and international wine and food law, and abide by several applicable food standards.

Reh Kendermann is certified ‘Grade A’ by the British Retail Consortium Standard (BRC). In addition, our winery successfully passed the examination of the International Food Standard (IFS) at ‘Higher Level’. The criteria for this category are regarded as the strictest standards in the entire food industry. The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point System (HACCP) is also fully integrated into our quality assurance system. All wines in our organic range meet the requirements of ‘organic farming’ in accordance with Regulation VO (EG) Nr. 834/2007.
