''Dimora di Campagna Cocci Grifoni'',

A dream's finally coming true: we have completed the renovation of two holiday apartments in our family houdse, nearby our wine farm. ''Dimora di Campagna Tenuta Cocci Grifoni'' is a comfortable accomodation, suitable both for a couple and a family who wish to spend some days in our countryside and discover the land where our wines are produced. Our wine cellar and our family house are two separate nearby units in the gorgeous Piceno hills. The apartments have been redecorated in countryside style. The furniture is a combination of tradition and modernity. We have preserved the atmosphere of typical country houses of the Marche region: oak floors, old wardrobe trunks, walnut, fir wood and oak beds and wardrobes, some family heirlooms such as antique wash basins, bed warmers, the Singer sewing machine, bobbin laces, some antique hand-sewn by our grandmas linen cloths, transformed in curtains. We have studied the best solution to combine an old-time atmosphere with the comfort of modern life. The apartments are fully equipped: kitchenettes, induction cookers, showers, air-conditioners, a lift.

History

Ever since its establishment in 1970, Tenuta Cocci Grifoni has always been bound to research and innovation, but also to love of the land and to the desire to find the best way to pay tribute to the peculiarities of the grapevines of this region. The wine cellar bonds its debut to a primacy: that of being the first to bottle Rosso Piceno Superiore (vintage 1969).

Ever since the mid eighties, Guido Cocci Grifoni realised the potentials of the native grapevines and, in a situation where the market preferred to promote International wines, he started to experiment with Pecorino, a grape variety that dates back to 1871 and that at that time risked extinction. Right from the beginning, the wine obtained from the Pecorino grapevines revealed exceptional oenological characteristics and, thanks to the efforts and farsightedness of Tenuta Cocci Grifoni, was awarded DOC recognition in 2001.

Again with the aim to valorise native produce, another forgotten grape variety was recovered: Passerina, which Tenuta Cocci Grifoni offers, enhancing its typical, delicate, fruity and pleasantly elegant features, declining it in sparkling wine, brut wine, straw wine or grape spirit.Today, Tenuta Cocci Grifoni owns almost 200 acres of land and exploits cutting edge technologies for wine growing and vinification.

The new generation, all of which are ladies, has taken over the company from their parents Guido and Diana in its current condition and is working to expand it on the international market, without altering the original philosophy that remains absolutely faithful with the quality standard reached, genuine expression of a land with a past rich in breathtaking moments but with a dynamic present and a future still to be extensively explored.

Vineyards

The wines of Tenuta Cocci Grifoni come to life in the heart of the Marche region and are the most authentic and genuine feature of a charming corner of Italy. A region rich in art, nature, culture and age-old traditions, which are perfectly represented in the elegant works of art of the fifteenth century artist Carlo Crivelli, whose colours reflect the magnificent scenarios of the Marche region. A land where even cuisine is an art and, thanks to its enviable geographic location, combines the fish of its sea with its inland delicacies: cured meats, cheeses, jams, honey, olive oil, fragrant truffles, hand made pasta, simple yet tasty desserts, are just some enduring flavourable memories of those who visit this region. It is in this area of the ancient Piceno civilization, the pulsing heart of the Marche region, that the wines of Tenuta Cocci Grifoni mature, ready to awaken the taste buds and the heart to intense and authentic sensations and emotions.

Winemaking

Tenuta Cocci Grifoni, without ever neglecting its beliefs and constantly cultivating the passion of its founder Guido Cocci Grifoni for wine making, has chosen to valorise the resources of the land where it was first established.

These gentle hills facing the Adriatic coastline and near the Sibillini Mountains are fertile land for rows of vines and for the turning silver colour of the olive groves. A land that at a first glimpse appears to be harsh but that is in actual fact noble and proud and overall extremely generous.

It is here that the excellent wine production of the cellars comes to life, together with a pleasantly balanced, fruity and scented olive oil.

Inside information

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

The rolling slopes where the grapes that give life to the wines of the company mature are fertile grounds also for age-old olive groves that yield a fragrant, lightly fruity and well-balanced oil that Tenuta Cocci Grifoni produces uniquely through mechanical processes. Grifondoro oil derives from cultivar Frantoio, Leccino and Carboncella, harvested by hand and pressed cold: the oil is clear and bright, golden with greenish reflections. The aroma is quite clear of fresh olives and opens to the mouth with hints of fruit, slightly bitter, revealing to be well-balanced and slightly sweet. For this reason the oil is perfect with salads, vegetables and fish dishes, but also as an undisputed role leader in simple yet appetizing starters.
