Chalten Wineries wins prize for best Patagonia Malbec at DWWA 13 june, 2011

The Decanter World Wine Awards ceremony was held last May during the London International Wine Fair, and our wine Chalten Malbec Colección 2009 won the award for the best in the category of Patagonia Malbecs and received a Regional Trophy.
This award positions it as the best Malbec in its class from a unique and extreme valley such as Neuquén in Argentine Patagonia. From the area of San Patricio de Chañar, the climate conditions are characterized by cooler nights, which helps to add acidity and natural freshness to the grapes. On the other hand the wind and the dryness, so characteristic of the region, help to produce a healthier grape with less intervention to the vine.
This classic Argentine wine takes on a unique nature in our region. It s great intensity presents itself voluminously, with aromas of preserves and fresh raisins that combine with the typical vanilla and dovetails smoothly with the oak. Its great structure quickly fills the mouth frankly and directly, without leaving any space.

History

For more than 15 years, Viña Dos Andes’s vision, is to be the best  premium wine maker in the southern part of the world. Being a family-owned business, it has a long--term view of the emotional and financial investments that are required, and has applied its passion, ambition and tenacity to make its dreams a reality.

We do not think of wine in terms of old world or new world. By combining the best of both worlds - French winemaking expertise with unique South American climate, soil and topography - we uncover Other Worlds of wine.
We are constantly exploring rare and exceptional places that produce special wines and exciting experiences.
We invite those with an adventurous spirit on a journey to discover these Other Worlds - through regions and environments, through history and culture, through flavors and aromas that are sophisticated, refined and unforgettable - a place where we labor to let the earth speak.

Vineyards

Maipo Valley

This valley is excellent to produce Carmenere and Merlot, due to its special conditions.
It is located nearby the Rapel Lake, which makes the temperatures being moderate and not too warm during the day. It has good thermal amplitude of around 15ºC.
Maipo has franc lime and deep soils, and is very well controlled by the watering.

Biobio Valley

The geography of the Biobío Valley lends complexity to its soils. Located over 500km to the south of Santiago, its volcanic and limestone soils are rich in glacial and river sediments, giving our wines a unique identity.
The latitude, the climate, the different soils, the rivers, the volcanoes, and the nearby Pacific coast go together to make these vineyards a paradise for varieties that flourish in cooler climates. The remarkable nature of the cool weather and the diversity of soils give rise to a variety of terroirs. The moist Mediterranean climate is ideal for producing high quality wine.
