History
Founded in 1781, Vidal-Fleury is located in the midst of the Côte-Rôtie vineyards and is the oldest continuously operating wine producer in the Rhône Valley.
From the beginning, Vidal-Fleury has exported its wines. In particular their strong relationship with the United States goes back to the Colonial era when Thomas Jefferson, Minister to France, visited the property in 1787.
Vidal-Fleury was purchased by the renowned Guigal family in 1984, but the two companies run separately : different style and origin of wines, different winery and different customers…A new winery was completed in June 2008 at a cost of nearly $25 million to optimize wine aging and bottling.
Vidal-Fleury currently produces 80,000 cases per year of wines from both the Northern and the Southern Rhône Valley, with a range comprising the greatest number of appellation wines of any Rhône Valley producer, currently numbering 20
red, white, and rosé wines : Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cornas, Saint- Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Tavel, Cairanne, Côtes du RhôneVillages, Côtes du Rhône, Ventoux. Single vineyard Côte-Rôtie La Chatillonne, almost 2.25 acres on the Côte Blonde, is the flagship wine of the line.
Highly regarded for typicity, each of the Vidal Fleury wines is true to its appellation, focusing on the choicest terroirs and allowing ample time to age and mature the wines.
