History

The Huber family has wine growing roots dating back more than 220 years. Today the winery in Reichersdorf is in its 10th generation and is run by Markus Huber. In 2000 Markus took over four hectares from his father which, up to that point,  had been farmed to produce the wines served in his family restaurant. His outstanding ability to manage the winery with sensitivity and consistency, both in the vineyards and the cellars, has ensured that in a very short space of time he has established Huber wines as an internationally acclaimed leading producer in Austria.

Absolute focus on the strengths of the region and the unique soil types that are found there ensure that year on year the wines display unmistakable clarity and fruit styles. “Sustainable development, carefully controlling the harvest and meticulous pruning are the most natural and important prerequisites for successful winemaking.” Markus Huber

Vineyards

Many great wines of the world are grown on limestone rich soil, and the Traisental valley is the only wine producing region of lower Austria where this exact soil type can be found. The limestone soil here forms the base of the finest sites for growing wine. This unique soil formation is rich with precious minerals and helps to keep the water supply to the vines at an optimum level. It provides our Grüner Veltliner with an unmistakable spiciness as well as a distinct and clear bouquet, and the Riesling with power and smooth body. Because of this our wines have great laying down potential -  Markus Huber himself loves to drink his wines once they have spent a few years maturing.

The valley of Traisental lies at the crossing point of the pannonian and continental climates. Here cool breezes drifting down from the nearby Alps meet with warm air currents coming from the Donau valley, which lead to extreme variance in the temperatures of the day and the night. This natural phenomenon is never more important than during the ripening season of the grapes, as it is hugely beneficial to the development of the aroma and their absorption into the skins which result in intensely aromatic wines. All these elements combined help our wines to develop their unmistakable character.

The limestone mix soil found in the Traisental area produces outstanding Grüner Veltliner and Rieslings with unmistakable character and distinction. The clarity and minerality of the wines are an expression of the climate and the vineyards from which they originated. Climatically, the region is very similar to that of the Burgund - Reichersdorf and lies along the same latitude as Beaune. The oldest vines from the estate are 80-years-old. The area sees cool nights and warm days.

Annual Production: 55,000 cases 12/750ml

Varieties Cultivated: Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Zweigelt, Gelber Muskateller

Organic/Sustainable/Other Certifications: Sustainably Certified, One-third of the vineyards farmed organically

TRADITION WITH FLAIR

The Huber family has wine growing roots dating back more than 220 years. Today the winery in Reichersdorf is in its 10th generation and is run by Markus Huber. His outstanding ability to manage the winery with sensitivity and consistency, both in the vineyards and the cellars, has ensured that in a very short space of time he has established Huber wines as an internationally acclaimed leading producer of the region Traisental. The Huber winery is also a member of the ‘Traditionsweingüter Österreich’ – traditional vineyards of Austria.

PURITY WITH STAYING POWER

Absolute focus on the strengths of the region and the unique soil types that are found there ensure that year on year the wines display unmistakable clarity and fruit styles. "Sustainable development, carefully controlling the harvest and meticulous pruning are the most natural and important prerequisites for successful winemaking", says Markus Huber. "Only that way can there be a harmonious merging of traditional and modern methods that create pure wines of unique provenance and character."

INTERNATIONAL QUALITY

Markus Huber is no stranger to a healthy portion of confidence, curiosity and market knowledge. And why not, because his high demands on the quality of his wines are second to none. Correspondingly HUBER Wines count amongst the finest of Austrian exports. He is well represented at noteworthy Wine-Challenges and has been certified by the IFS; International Food Standard.

AND AT THE END OF THE DAY?

"There’s the joy of coming home, the joy I have seeing my wonderful family and of course the joy of wine – pure and simple", says Markus Huber with a smile.

Inside information

Numerous small-scale agricultural farms are scattered throughout theTraisental valley. Vineyards here are not much bigger than the average family garden – yet they are farmed with lots of love and care, because the age of vines and the uniqueness of the soil is an incredible treasure. The grapes harvested here are the foundation for some of the most important wines of the winery and of the region: Grüner Veltliner Traisental DAC and Riesling Traisental DAC.

The climate of the Traisental valley is very similar to that of the Burgund - Reichersdorf lies along the same latitude as Beaune - and the area is blessed with cool nights and warm days. Because of this temperature induced interaction the development of the fruity flavours typical of these varietals becomes even more pronounced.

Affected by their location, height and geological bedrock these vineyards produce outstanding wines and even with the passing of the years they can be identified by these unique vineyard characteristics. Notably the limestone mix soil found in the area produces outstanding Veltliner and Rieslings with unmistakable character and distinction. The clarity and minerality of the wines are an expression of the climate and the vineyards from which they originated.

HUBER wines are unmistakable – characterized by their origins and by the vintner.
