    My Today

TOP 41 WINES from Bordeaux vintage 2015

The wines on this list is chosen for their believed future score and and thereafter in the order that I would like to buy them to have them in my collection (if I had money dripping from my finger tips) but there are, luckily, some wines on this list that are not overly expensive. After five hundred and fifty plus wines tasted of the 2015 vintage more or less everything there is to taste of names have been tasted, some, when in doubt about the sample has been tried again if possible. The wines are very good if maybe not at the level som have suggested. It does not rival 2010, not 2005 either. 2000, 2001 and 2014 in parts seems to be somewhere to put it, and 1985 has come to mind several times over with the pure fresh elegance and charm.

The wines are far more precise and concentrated than 1985 ever was, but the style seems similar. These are wine that will be very easy to enjoy with high quality and on a whole, the best vintage since 2010, especially on the Right Bank. Some excellent and superb wines in Pomerol, and a more fine grained and fine tuned and fresher, more brilliant style of Saint-Emilion. Left bank is more varied, Margaux and Saint-Julien the most homogenous. There are many great wines just off this list, these are the ones I expect to land at 95 score or higher. None at one hundred this time around. The wine are fragrant, red fruity, many has used everything they had of Cabernet Franc, so a violets note is quite typical, especially on the Right Bank.

2000 Chateau Montrose NOV 09 Ruby with pink rim. Fantastic nose, even when closed, this smells thoroughbred. Hints of stable, minerals, a bit rustic as normal in St. Estèphe, some blackcurrants, pure youth. Great acidity, elegant tannins, this one needs 10, if not 20 years, will be great. 94

1999 La Dame de Montrose; (2nd Chateau Montrose) APR 10 Deep ruby with bright ruby rim. Impressively youthful, hardly any evolution at all, just settling in. Blackcurrants, both berries and leaves, darker berries and minerals, even paprika with a slight hint of anise and spices. Fresh, even mouthwatering, ripe tannins, great structure, especially for a second wine. 1998 Château Montrose APR 11 Ruby, some vanilla, tobacco, paprika, stable and herbs, has some youthful toughness to it still. Medium body, more intense flavours, good acidity, ripe tannins, needs time to open, should be in the cellar another five years. 89 for now.

1996 Château Montrose APR 11 Again during the Ban du Millésime dinner, ruby, garnet rim, tobacco, fine leather, chocolate, cigars and blackcurrant's, superb texture, fresh acidity, ripe tannins, beautiful balance, very long length. A beauty now, but should be kept. 94

1995 Château Montrose MAY 15 Ruby, garnet rim. Cassis, red berries, scented, detailed nose, elegant, light tobacco, cedar, liquorice and leather, floral high nose, lovely nose, beautiful. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, elegant, lively, fruity, detailed, elegant, starting to drink beautifully, even if it will still be a long haul. Lovely bottle. 95

1995 Château Montrose APR 15 Ruby. Cassis, plums, intense, dark fruits, some vanilla, spices, detailed, exotic, cinnamon note, flirting nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, rounded, fruity, detailed, red and darker berries, lush cassis fruit, long. 93

1995 Château Montrose NOV 11 Ruby with garnet rim, starting to show some development, touch of prunes behind St-Estèphe vigor. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, stunning texture, very long. 95

Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner palate, some red berries, cherries, leather, anise, touch of cassis and blueberries. Bit lean and skinny but has some (fainting) beauty still. 89

1990 Château Montrose APR 15 Low neck fill. Ruby. Tobacco, leather, cedar, cinnamon, spices, intensely woody in a way, light herbal note, cassis, coffee, dark chocolate, deep and intense. More detailed and more seductive with air. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, intense, layered, bulldozer, exceptional length.100

1990 Château Montrose JAN 15 Deep ruby, thin brick rim. Intense, scented, ripe, rich, exotic, dark berries, blueberries. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, ripe, fruity, rich if somewhat leaner, fresh, cherries, plums, detailed, long finish. 97

1990 Château Montrose APR 14 Ruby. Intense, leather, cassis, fruity, rich, cedar, layered, deep nose, massive. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, intense, fruity, ripe, detailed, layered, huge flavours, very long indeed. 99

1990 Château Montrose OCT 13 Ruby, garnet rim. Tight, slightly herbal, scented, nuanced, intense, refreshing, stunning, floral notes, gorgeous nose, nuanced and layered. Layers upon layers. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant, nuanced and refreshing, intense, refreshing, mouthwatering, amazing, ads and ads and everything is so fresh. Served blind and I was on '90 Montrose on the nose, and so it was. Perfect, my best bottle so far, stunning. 100

1990 Château Montrose JUN 12 Deep ruby. Deep nose, minty, concentrated, massive, everything is packed in there, in glossy paper, but very hard to decipher. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, intense structure, still superb balance, mouthwatering, rich, like a ball, rolling over the palate, this bottle could be longer, and lacked even the faintest hint of any brett. Perfect bottles like this one should lie for another ten-to twenty years for assessment. 95

1990 Château Montrose MAY 12 Ruby, garnet rim. Decanted close to five hours. Intense nose, power, yet finesse. Overwhelming! Dark berries, tobacco, deep notes, like having Barry White singing at your table. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, massive, extreme, lacks some complexity, or it's all in a ball in there somewhere, everything else in abundance. 95-96

1990 Château Montrose OCT 10 The legend again! What a treat! A level fill, ruby with garnet rim. Intense, cassis, blackcurrant leafs, so pure, so other worldly pure, like is cassis foam, so tender and yet massive. Tea and hint of fine leather, takes a long time to open in the glass, overtones of roses and violets, extremely complex, some vanilla and even white chocolate. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, great balance, intense and so elegant, needs a lot more time, flirting, seductive and yet secretive and masculine, yet it feels open like a book, intriguing. Wow again. And I liked this bottle better than the last that I found a bit "porty". 98

1990 Chateau Montrose JAN 10 Ruby with thin garnet rim. Intense, leather, cedar, cinnamon, liquorice, extremely complex. Intense fruit, big body, almost massive, like Napa, concentrated, great acidity, lots of ripe tannins, mint, very youthful, incredibly long finish, keep another 20 years. 96

1989 Château Montrose APR 15 In neck fill. Ruby. Scented, dark fruits, cassis, leather, detailed, nuanced, intense, layered, flirting, seductive nose, loads and layers of dark fruits. Exotic. Superb nose with air. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, detailed, nuanced, waves upon waves, refined but overwhelming at the same time, intense, massive, slight herbal note far beneath, long. 99

1989 Château Montrose JUN 12 Deep ruby. Feels more evolved with some figs and stone-fruits next to that ball of a 90 Montrose. But way more layered and nuanced. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, lively feel to the palate, red berries and younger feel with some air, flirting, seductive and very elegant. The finest leather available. Superb, and exceptional length. 97

1988 Château  Montrose OCT 15 Ruby. Some cassis, red berries, some spices, leather, cedar notes, refreshing and youthful, scented. Youthful bottle. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner palate, lovely fruit and balance, refreshing, quite nuanced, long. 93

1988 Château Montrose APR 15 In neck fill. Ruby. Some nettles, dark fruits, coffee and tobacco. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, red berries, structured, some herbs beneath, refreshing but structured. 89

1988 Château Montrose AUG 14 Ruby, thin garnet rim. Excellent cork and fill. Scented, bright red fruits, quite elegant fruit, detailed nose, more youthful and detailed than any bottles of this I've tasted. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, cool and fresh fruit, minerals, not the most complex but very fresh. Lovely. 91

1986 Château Montrose MAY 16 Ruby, garnet rim. Scented, red berries, floral, nuanced, leather, some cassis nose, bright. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, nuanced, elegant, some structure still, red berries, long. 94

1986 Montrose FEB 16 In neck fill. Ruby, brick rim. Cassis, blueberries, figs, prunes, violets, black tea, leather and tobacco nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity, structured, elegant fruit, lovely balance, long. Best bottle I have ever had of this wine. 95

1986 Château Montrose APR 15 Bottom neck fill. Ruby. Red berries, light cedar, leather and tobacco note nose. Getting more intense with air. This bottle was quite funky and barnyardy upon opening, bordering on cork aromas. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, still fairly firm, leaner palate, figs, cassis and redcurrants, leathery and slight bitter chocolate finish, structured. 93

1986 Château Montrose DEC 13 Ruby with brick rim. Leathery and plummy bottle, skinny even, more evolved than last bottle a few months back, lacks some younger fruits, anise and prunes. Fresh acidity, few and ripe tannins, elegant if a bit skinny bottle, nuanced and refreshing, scented finish, long. 90

1986 Château Montrose SEP 13 In neck fill. Ruby, garnet rim. Some figs, spices, tobacco, earl grey, layered, complex, fine leather, nuanced nose, more mature nose than last bottle. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, savory, leaner, some figs and leather, long. 93

1986 Château Montrose APR 12 Bottom neck fill, deep ruby, brick rim. Tight nose, classic, cassis, bell peppers, almost salty minerals, a very fresh bottle, leather. Fresh acidity, still tannins, probably the richest bottle of 86 Montrose I've had, almost massive finish, long. 94

1986 Chateau Montrose MAY 10 Deep ruby, ruby rim still, starts out with a mature nose, a bit lean, leather, stable, cigars, fresh and lively acidity, some tannins holding on in the finish. After 1, 5 hours in decanter, still mature, but so much more complex, cigars, coffee, leather, hay, tobacco, cedar, cherry stones, anise, tannins seems more mature, probably because there is so much more body and intensity going on, acidity seems even fresher, fleshy cherries, a mature 86, especially for a châteaux like Montrose, but still very enjoyable. Great finish. 92

1985 Château Montrose JUN 10 Ruby. Elegant and light nose, some cherries, leather, figs and tobacco. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner, fresh, somewhat sweet and sour, good length. 88

1984 Château Montrose APR 15 Bottom neck fill. Ruby, brick rim. Dried fruits, dusty, some tobacco on the nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner, some tobacco and figs, fairly short. 84

1983 Château Montrose APR 15 Bottom neck fill. Ruby, brick rim. Scented, cassis, figs and plums, some tobacco, quite detailed and opens up into a lovely nuanced nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, lively, fruity, detailed, elegant, but could have been a bit longer, lovely bottle. 93

    1983 Château Montrose

JUN 10 Ruby, brick rim, sediments. Cherries, cassis, bell peppers cedar and tobacco nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, still some structure, fresh and long, lively, lovely balance and fruit, long. 95

1983 Château Montrose JUN 10 Ruby, some sediments (bad lighting) A/B level fill, good cork. Great nose, cherries, forest floor, blackcurrants, some paprika, cedar and cigar. Fresh acidity, elegant tannins, peaking now in my book, a bit leaner style of Montrose, but still a charmer in its elegance. 89

1982 Château Montrose APR 15 In neck fill. Ruby, garnet rim. Scented, dark fruits, minerals beneath, tobacco, detailed, cassis, prunes, layered and complex nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity, lively, rounded, red berries freshness in finish. Long. 94

1978 Château Montrose APR 15 B/C level fill. Ruby, brick rim. Scented, red berries, cedar, figs, elegant nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, structured, leaner fruit, slightly bell peppers finish, tobacco and leather. 89

1976 Château Montrose APR 15 Fill 8mm below cork. Ruby, garnet rim. Dark fruits, plums, figs, tobacco, scented, elegant nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner, fresh, fruity, quote fresh but drying a bit in the finish. Long. 90

1976 Château Montrose APR 12 In the neck fill. Ruby, brick rim. Mature nose. figs, cherry-stone, prunes, leather, slightly perfumed, cigars, complex and lively nose. Fresh acidity, tannins soon gone, alive and kicking, but drink very soon. Good length. 90

1976 Château Montrose JAN 12 Very top shoulder fill, ruby with brick rim. Closed first, was also somewhat cold as a spur of the moment opening from the cellar. Double decanted and opened up quickly as soon as the temperature was correct. Nose of leather, figs, some cassis and tobacco, good acidity, mellow, rounded texture, few and ripe tannins, elegant and mature Montrose, somewhat lean finish, good length. 91

1975 Château Montrose DEC 15 Ruby, garnet rim. Some plums, figs and prunes, leaner nose, some tobacco. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner bottle, somewhat dry. 87

1975 Château Montrose MAY 15 Very top shoulder fill. Bright ruby, garnet rim. Cassis, leather, bramble, scented, behind tobacco and figs, elegant and detailed nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, minerals, almost salty, detailed, nuanced, bit fruitier than last bottle, quite youthful bottle, structured, slightly drying finish, coffee. 92

1975 Château Montrose APR 15 Bottom neck fill. Ruby, brick rim. Scented, dark fruits, detailed, plums, tobacco, some floral notes, detailed nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner palate, fruity, structured, red berries, almost minerals, lovely bottle. 92

1975 Château Montrose JAN 15 In neck fill, soaked cork, Ruby, brick rim. Scented, cassis, light figs and leather note, liquorice, light mineral note, quite intense nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh and lively, bit sweet & sour, leaner but enough fruit to hold the remaining texture, had a slightly fruitier bottle a few weeks back. 92

1975 Château Montrose  DEC 14 Rubinrød, tegl kant. Lær, fiken, dadler, nesten mineralsk, detaljert, nyansert, flørtende duft. Frisk syre, modne tanniner, frisk, livlig, slankere frukt, detaljert, fortsatt stram, litt slankere flaske, fiken og kirsebærstein finish, lang. Nå-2020 93

1975 Château Montrose MAY 12 Bottom neck fill, ruby with garnet rim. Leather, cassis, bell peppers, licorice, morellos, sweet feel and elegant. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner style yes, but elegant and long, lovely bottle. 92

1966 Château Montrose; SEP 10 (Magnum) A level fill, ruby with thin brick rim. First, slightly off, wondering if it was a bit corked. Later on, leather, black- and redcurrants, anise and prunes. Good acidity, ripe tannins, some metal touch, still felt a bit off, but too good to ignore...... The day after, much more complex and elegant on the nose, all signs of off aromas or cork gone, more leather, prunes, coffee, much more nuanced and rich. More complexity, but the structure started to tire and the tannins seemed a bit dry. Still very drinkable and a good wine. 84

1961 Château Montrose APR 15 In neck fill. Ruby, broad brick rim. Tobacco, exotic spices, plums, figs and some cassis. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, lively, fruity, red berries, detailed, nuanced, playful, lovely balance, refreshing. Long. Ever so slightly dry at it's very end. 94

1961 Château Montrose Apr 11 Ruby, orange rim. Figs, prunes, leather, somewhat dusty that never quite leaves. Fresh acidity, few tannins, some figs and prunes, drying a bit towards finish, good length. 88

1961 Chateau Montrose JAN 10 A bit deeper ruby with orange rim. A bit dusty, some leather, hay, fresh berries, cassis, stable and whiff of cigars. Kind of sweetish fruity attack, fresh acidity, great dark fruit, slightly metallic and drying a bit in the finish. 91

1959 Château Montrose MAY 15 Danish bottling, E. Troels-Smith, Copenhagen. Top shoulder fill. Ruby, brick rim. Leather, figs, mature, more evolved than last bottle, cedar, earthy nose. Fresh acidity, few tannins, some dark berries, sweet and sour, iodine and light metallic note before it actually ads some prunes in the finish. 91

1959 Château Montrose APR 15 Bottom neck fill. Ruby, thin brick rim. Tobacco, dark fruits, scented, figs and plums nose. Quite intense. Getting more detailed with air. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, ripe fruits, plums and figs but again this slight redcurrants touch, long. 95

1949 Château Montrose SEP 10 B/C level fill if I remember correctly, ruby with garnet rim and extreme sediments. Leather, cassis, cigars, tobacco, very fine and complex, very intense, even some coffee. Very pure, elegant, fresh acidity, ripe tannins, gorgeous texture body and length. Just a tiny metallic touch far back in the aftertaste. 95

1948 Château Montrose APR 15 A level fill. Ruby, thin orange rim. Dried fruits, cooked herbal notes, rubber, figs and dates, better with air. Fresh acidity, high of dry tannins, rustic, squared, drying finish, somewhat unbalanced. 82

1947 Château Montrose APR 15 B level fill. Ruby with brownish hue, orange rim. Caramel, dried and dusty nose. Fresher palate, fresh, leaner some red berries, but dries off in the finish. 85

1945 Château Montrose APR 15 C level fill, mid shoulder. Bright ruby, broad garnet rim. Figs, redcurrants, anise, leather, fruit driven, bright nose. Liquorice with more air. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner, red fruits, detailed, nuanced, lively, leaner, same lively and playful red fruitiness of Ausone in the vintage and Pontet-Canet, have something similar. But it dies off after 45 minutes. 93

1934 Château Montrose APR 15 B level fill. Brown, brick rim. Oxidised nose, dried maderized palate.

1928 Château Montrose APR 15 Bottom neck fill, estate bottled. Reconditioned 1989. Ruby with broad mahogany rim. Figs, dates, cigars, faint minerals note, sweet tobacco, slight peppery note, evolving and adding all the time. Forest floor. Me

To me wine is one of the greatest and sometimes worst of the worlds greatest pleasures. When you get that one bottle, or even that one sip of a truly great wine, you're just lost. Wine can be almost everything, great pleasure, great fun, deeply tragic, complex, easy, boring, fresh, fantastic, but maybe the greatest of it all, floating history. Imagine drinking your birth year wine, you drink you're own age, and in a way your own life. Memories comes rushing back... Or what about drinking a 1945?

After the war was over and they were able to make some of the most legendary wines of all time. I am a wine fanatic, I have WSET Diploma in Wines and Spirits and have been inthroned as Commandeur de Bordeaux as well as Hospitalier d'Honneur of Pomerol, Gentilhomme d'Honneur du Duché de Fronsac and Prud'homme de la Jurade de Saint-Emilion. All views are my personal ones. I live in Norway, I'm a freelance wine writer and a wine educator and after several requests I have decided to write more English reviews and tasting notes. Please pardon my errors in a foreign language as some tastingnotes have been written quickly. Enjoy, and please ad comments of personal experiences.

    Digital Me

MY top wine moments of 2016.

It is a list, but it’s difficult to put it correctly, it’s more the first that springs to my mind thinking back on the year that has passed by.

    1. Just for the sheer pleasure and luxury of being able to follow and share one bottle of 1982 Château Mouton Rothschild over several hours with just one fellow drinker. A magnificent bottle, the best one I’ve had, opened randomly (word not chosen randomly) by itself. Normally these shows up at crazy tastings were one bottle overshadows another, and one just gets small sips as there are lots of people around the table. That is off course how many of us actually get to taste these expensive gems. Fantastic evening and night. The wine showed all exotic treats and layers one expects from it. 100

    2. A Vega Sicilia Vertical tasting in Helsinki, Finland with a total of 17 new vintages for me of Unico, stretching back to 1921. Some of the highlights of the evening were the 1946, 1964, 1986, 1996, 2002 vintages, with many runners up. We started the tasting with the 1964 as the host had read that some crazy Norwegian had given the wine a perfect score. I wonder who that could be?

    3. I have had this a few times now, and spotted this one quite quickly blind. The stunning 1970 Château Latour is a cathedral of a wine. So massively built, yet layers of fruit and complexity, stunning. Hugely impressive wine. 100

    4. Yes, I am a Mouton guy, always have loved the bold exotic expression, and here is another Mouton, 1986 Château Mouton Rothschild this time, opened in May. It needed four hours in decanter to run on all cylinders, but wow, then it ran smoothly. Layers of lush and pure fruit, incredible length. 100

    5. The only reason this isn’t further up is its youth. 2014 Comte Liger Belair La Romanée. WOW! The purity, the delicacy, the nuances, the layers, the playfulness, the brightness. It feels transparent until you try another great wine besides it, and it just runs over it. The length is amazing! Wish I could afford cases! 100

    6. 2000 Château Latour just left me dreaming. It is youthful still, but the layers and depth showing up in there is stunning. Refined and just ads on and on the more air one gives it. Amazing stuff. 99

    7. Three times 1916 Château Malartic Lagraviére. The bottles were opened at L’Academie du Vin dinner in Bordeaux. Two bottles fairly similar, one less so. To be able to have a go at bottle variations on a wine one hundred years old, that is just amazing! Best wine got 94!

    8. Getting a glass of 1996 Le Pin at Helsinki Airport. Not a producer I taste much, and not something I expect to find at an airport. The coravin system isn’t perfect, the wine seemed a little to evolved for its age, but anyways, quite a treat.

    9. Probably my most delicious sparkling this year. At the above mentioned Vega-Sicilia vertical, this 1975 Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill from magnum was poured. A subtle, refreshing, delicate, nuanced, lively and refined Champagne. Served blind, I was off quite a bit, I guessed 1988 Salon. Stunning once in a lifetime experience!

    10. The random moment, in the middle of the night, when I first get a 1938 Barros Colheita blind, and then a 1865 Niepoort Colheita. Let’s just say I was miles off both vintages blind! Both superb.

    11. A magnificent trip to Mosel in August arranged by the German Wine Institute. I had an excellent guide for two of the days with Slow Mosel, and fantastic visits in both vineyards and wineries up and down Saar, Ruwer and Mosel. Superb visits at Zilliken, Selbach-Oster, Dr.Pauly-Bergweiler, Vollenweider, Weiser-Künstler, Kettern and more. The trips organized by the German Wine Institute are always great experiences. I really fell back in love with Riesling on this trip to Mosel. Mosel made me fall in love with the variety, but I’m not as geared up for the love of the bone dry ones as many. My God have good a proper Kabinett can be!

    12. A trip to Douro, tasting lots of beautiful wines, young and old. Having some excellent food in Porto, and beautiful Colheitas from Kopke in the vintages 1938 and 1935. But the vitality of the 1917 Barros Rich Tawny probably sticks to my mind the most.

    13. A week in Romania was an eye-opener. It changed my view on an entire country, as well as on their wines. There might be some future stars here.

    14. Getting to taste a massive amount of wines from Albert Bichot as they let me sniff and taste around their cellars for three days. Including some very rare birds like the 300 bottles production of Richebourg! Amazed at their generosity.

    15. Going to Grand Jours de Bourgogne with a fairly crazy fellow Norwegian dreaming of buying a castle so he could throw burning oil on visitors he didn’t like. Rarely have I laughed as hard and as much, at the same time as there were so many stunning wines on display, ready to be tasted. It was some fantastic days in Burgundy.

There were many more fantastic wine moments in 2016, as well as the loss of some wine friends. It’s been a roller coaster of a year, with lots of emotions. Can’t wait to see what 2017 will bring. Oh shit, I forgot a pretty interesting Marques de Riscal vertical going back to 1910…..

Rinaldi Barolo 2007 / Served blind. Bright ruby with sediments. Scented, tar and roses, rich nose, tea, anise, leather and cherries nose. Fresh and high acidity, high of ripe tannins, fruity and lively, intense, cherries and red berries, little bit high alcohol making it a bit sweet, long. 90p

Christer Byklum / Leading Scandinavian wine blogger, Wine Writer (Norway)  had a tasting of  5 Wines  from  1 Producers

1994 Le Pin / Deep ruby, very thin garnet rim. Very intense and complex, truffles, mushrooms, forest floor, paprika, leather, minerals, hint of cigars, great balance, fresh acidity, great texture, ripe tannins, the texture makes them hard to notice somehow, starting to evolve, perfect now and in the next 10 years. Very elegant, and at least in this vintage, nothing like a Parker monster as one could expect, a bit short finish if I'm picky. 93

Finally, after some busy days tasting back home in Oslo, here is 2016 Margaux. A vintage with a lot of success in this commune as well. Beautiful texture, pure fruits and that gorgeous scented in abundance almost Margaux typicity that is shining very clearly this year. Another stellar commune in 2016.

Christer Byklum / Leading Scandinavian wine blogger, Wine Writer (Norway)  had a tasting of  75 Wines  from  62 Producers

In 2016 Pauillac has made some excellent wines and on the top, Mouton has made something very special and might be wine of the vintage competing with Petrus. Lots of estate has made excellent wines from Pauillac this year. Saint-Estephe has also made stunning wines and Cos d'Estournel has made one of the greatest wines I have ever tasted from them. Northern Médoc is far better in 2016 than in 2015, but for me, 2016 on a whole delivers more. 2015 for me eas a bit hyped even if the wines were very good indeed. 2016 probably has the edge over 2011 as well that is seriously undervalued in the market, but will give many some surprises for the future.

Christer Byklum / Leading Scandinavian wine blogger, Wine Writer (Norway)  had a tasting of  64 Wines  from  62 Producers

98 wines tasted from Pomerol 2016 vintage, a stunning vintage for the appelation. Petrus might be the wine of the vintage, such finesse! But many others as well. Le Pin, La Conseillante, Clinet, Gazin, Petit Village, Lafleur, L'Evangile, VCC, La Fleur-Pétrus, Trotanoy, L'Eglise-Clinet and many more made stunning wines. Gazin made the best wine they ever did, same with Nenin. Pomerols are beyond seductive in 2016.

Christer Byklum / Leading Scandinavian wine blogger, Wine Writer (Norway)  had a tasting of  16 Wines  from  1 Producers

1985 Comte Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre / Pale golden. Lots of smoke and vanilla, seems to be a lot of barrels. Behind a lot of nuances, floral and even some tropical notes, flinty. Fresh acidity, fruity, bit ripe, elegant minerality, some citrus, again that floral touch and slight tropical note. Just a bit short, but lovely. Served blind, I found both Meursault and Lafon but missed the vintage by fifteen years, I was on 2000. 93

Complex, seductive, apricots, botrytis, such elegance, gorgeous structure, bready, or maybe more of biscuits, incredibly youthful, all of this, but the acidity? Well it kind of does the job, because it's never sticky, not even close. But it isn't fresh and lively either, and that is where it loses its marks for me, but still. 95

1995 Comte de Vogüé Musigny Vieilles Vignes
JAN 10 Pale ruby, garnet rim. Very elegant and very youthful. Violets, strawberries, hints of vanilla, floral notes, wet roses, some minerals, pure and elegant. Very complex, medium body, very ripe tannins, fresh acidity, perfect balance, fantastic and very long finish. Keep. 95

2004 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée / Cloudy brick appearance. Fresher and more youthful than the last two bottles, feeling more like it was at release, but the colour is very different. Even some of the typical herbs of the vintage, but they're only evident for the first ten minutes. Redcurrants, unripe raspberries, coffee and morellos. Extreme acidity, almost on the harsh side, the teeth start to itch. The acidity carries the redcurrants far out in the aftertaste, visiting a place of minerality, almost salty. Strange colour for such a young wine, almost like 58 Gaja Barolo, but finally a bottle that didn't seem cooked. Yet again, a worrying cork, seems to have been more or less soaked. This seems very typical of Leroy from my experience. 92
