The Story

The vineyard takes its name from the old woman who lived in the house adjacent to the vineyard. The lady was always dressed in black and there fore given the nickname “l’uselun” (big bird).

APPELLATION:Barbera d’Asti d.o.c.g.

VARIETY:Barbera.

VINEYARD:Rocchetta Tanaro.

VINIFICATION:temperature controlled maceration with careful cap management for 20 days.

MATURATION:15 months of ageing in 225 lt. oak barrels followed by 12 months in the bottle.

CHARACTERISTICS: intense ruby red with purple hues. Notes of red berries, mint and vanilla. The bouquet is rich, aromatic and complex with a remarkable intensity and multilayered concentration. The wine is generous, voluptuous and full-bodied with a multidimensional structure, perfectly balanced between the grape characteristics and high quality oak, with a persistent long finish. Heavy meat dishes, roasts, also seasoned meat dishes and aged cheeses.

Serve at 17-18 °C.

Braida Bricco dell’Uccelone 2010 is way to young at this stage, entirely closed with firm tannins, a high level of bitterness and all it’s fruit rather dominated by new oak. Needs time, lots of time.
