Written Notes

From an original batch of 3654 bottles, disgorged for the 2000 millennium celebrations, you have on the nose dried flowers, barley, dates and caramel. It opens with considerable nuance, spices, some butterscotch, considerable creaminess, and a nicely rounded Sherry-accented mid palate. It then becomes more impressively sensual, throughout with a very gentle, palate dappling mousse, and soft lime notes on the lingering, evocative finish, with some almonds and apricots punctuating the finale. This had both lovely finesse and depth, a superb example of its genre. 95 Points+

Omar Khan, Wine Writer (United States)  tasted  Champagne Charlie 1982  ( Charles Heidsieck )

"This was the original “Tete de Cuveé” from this house, and arguably it is vibrantly, dynamically near its apogee. There are almonds, honey, red fruit, brioche on the nose. You have a deep, complex wine here, with a lively mousse, and the 75% Pinot Noir/25% Chardonnay, contributes to the body being somewhat akin to Grand Cru Burgundy. Pear and red berries emerge on the mid palate, along with complex minerality, some dough and slightly tart apricots, a little smokiness from the oxidative notes that are beguiling, and it expressively culminates in a pure, long finish that reverberates for some time. 96 Points"
