The Story

Chapelle d’Ausone is the second wine of the famous Bordeaux wine estate Chateau Ausone. It is located in the Saint Emilion region in Bordeaux, France, and is under the directive of the Saint Emilion Appellation. The primary wine of the estate, Chateau Ausone, is one of only four wines, alongside Chateau Angelus, Cheval Blanc and Pavie to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classe (A) in the Saint-Emilion classification for wine. The winery is located on the Right Bank of France’s Bordeaux wine growing region.

Many claim the high quality wine originating from the Chateau is due to the soil composition in the area, a blend of sand and clay residing on limestone which is unique to the area. Due to the smaller nature of this vineyard, the entire harvest can be picked over the course of two afternoons.

Written Notes

Deep and subtle with loads of dark and red fruits. There was hints of oak and vanilla in the mid-palate. Medium long finish with some dry fruit at the end. Pretty high acidity and weighty but still smooth tannin. This wine for sure needs ageing time to get softened. 92-93

Dark purple red with violet hue and almost black core. Expressive nose with distinct aroma reminiscent of mild spices, blackberries, sweet elderberries, discreet roasting aroma and hints of vanilla. On the palate well structured, elegant taste with depth and length, a perfectly balanced wine in an elegant and persistent style.

Deep colour. Roasted chestnut, dark lim praline aromas. Generous and velvety with beautiful supple ripe dark plum, chestnut, chocolate flavours, finishes chalky firm. Very good wine with al dente textures at the finish. 95 points
