The Story

Chapelle d’Ausone is the second wine of the famous Bordeaux wine estate Chateau Ausone. It is located in the Saint Emilion region in Bordeaux, France, and is under the directive of the Saint Emilion Appellation. The primary wine of the estate, Chateau Ausone, is one of only four wines, alongside Chateau Angelus, Cheval Blanc and Pavie to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classe (A) in the Saint-Emilion classification for wine. The winery is located on the Right Bank of France’s Bordeaux wine growing region.

Many claim the high quality wine originating from the Chateau is due to the soil composition in the area, a blend of sand and clay residing on limestone which is unique to the area. Due to the smaller nature of this vineyard, the entire harvest can be picked over the course of two afternoons.

Written Notes

Deep colour. Inky dark blackcurrant flavours, blackberry flavours, bitter sweet tannins, underlying savoury oak. Very attractive fruit complexity with chalky dry finish and persistent blackberry pastille notes. Impressive wine with lovely vigour and ripe fruits. Tasted at Ch Ausone. 95 points

A great second wine. Dark purple red with violet hue and black core. Expressive and multi-layered character, wonderful fruit, delicate spiciness and well balanced toasting aroma. On the palate excellent structure, depth and length, a great wine however a bit closed. A wine which asks for a closer look into it, but presents a great potential. 94
