The Tb points given to this wine are the world’s most valid and most up-to-date evaluation of the quality of the wine. Tastingbook points are formed by the Tastingbook algorithm which takes into account the wine ratings of the world's best-known professional wine critics, wine ratings by thousands of tastingbook’s professionals and users, the generally recognised vintage quality and reputation of the vineyard and winery. The Story

Henri Lurton believes that a great wine should combine structure with elegance and possess great aromatic purity. Château Brane Cantenac’s aromatic qualities have been acknowledged for a great many years. Its bouquet develops over time. The more the wine ages, the greater power it develops.

Brane’s greatest asset is the amazing quality of its historic terroir, because at the end of the day wine is made in the vineyard. This is why Henri Lurton attaches such great importance to vine canopy work, very strict selection and moderate yields (an average yield of 45hl/ha). Contrary to what may have been written about the estate, Brane produces a very limited quantity of First Wine. Scarcely a third of the production carries the famous gold and black label!

Written Notes

Clear, medium-intense, brick red colour. Tight nose with floral tones, earthiness, licorice, cedar and smoke with black currant notes. Medium-bodied palate with vivid acidity, firm silky tannic structure, dry fruitiness with black currants. Medium-long, savory finish.

Very top shoulder fill. Cork was loose and was pushed into the bottle when I tried to get the opener in it, so the bottle got emergency decanted to try to prevent flavour contamination from the old outer part of the cork. Bright ruby with thin orange rim. Quite full nose of violets, figs and ripe cherries. A scented overtone, almost of vanilla, that very finest fresh one. Fresh acidity, tannins more or less gone, almost Richebourg texture. Some sour cherry stones in the finish. Quite nice balance, and better than expected, but could be more complex and longer. More prunes with air.
