Wine Information

This lovely property situated on the famous limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion has for ages produced wines of unparalleled elegance. Acquired by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1952, the château was elected to the rank of “Premier Grand Cru Classé” at the time of the 1958 classification.

The vineyard, with an average age of 30 years, is U-shaped, thus enjoying a favorable sunny exposure. The limestone soil gives the wine its remarkable equilibrium. With meticulous care in the vineyard and a respectful vinification, the wine keeps its identity and expresses the unique terroir of the terrace of Saint-Émilion for the greatest pleasure of enlightened wine connoisseur.

Vintage 2009

Much like 1947, 1961 and 2005, 2009 is a year of almost overly (for Bordeaux) flamboyant and opulent wines with high maturity and low acidity. The tannins are exceptionally ripe, while the wines are quite voluptuous in style. The Left Bank recorded more hours of sunshine than legendary vintages such as 1947 and 1982, and the grapes had higher sugar concentrations than in 2003 and 2005. The key was significant diurnal temperature variations that allowed the grapes to withstand hot daytime temperatures. An exceptional vintage on all levels.

Deep ruby. Rich nose, massive, fruit-driven, intense nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, rich, sweet and up front. long finish. 91

"A property that has largely been replanted over the last 25 years, the 2009 is one of the best the firm of Jean-Pierre Moueix has yet released from this estate. Eighty percent of this vineyard sits on the limestone plateau and 20% on the hillsides, and the 2009 displays a classic confiture of black cherries, some crushed rocks and spring flowers in a full-bodied, yet at the same time, ethereal and rather elegant style. The wine has gorgeous fruit purity, a broad, luscious texture, and more density and richness than one normally finds in this somewhat finesse-styled wine, which seems to have achieved more depth and potential in 2009."
