The Story

From an exceptional site that imparts earthy, ethereal notes of power and elegance, this signature cabernet reveals intense, deep layers of crème de cassis, barbecue smoke, graphite, blackberry and freshly cut flowers that excite the palate. Incredibly long and round, it is our rarest wine, the 2002 vintage achieving our first perfect score as “a wine of enormous concentration, multiple dimensions, layers of flavor, and a sensational one minute plus finish. Its purity, harmony and symmetry are prodigious.”

Wine Information

The estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon from the Tychson Hill Vineyard possesses power and elegance with luscious notes of black fruits and sweet earthiness- a wine with a distinctive personality!

Winemaker notes from Mark Aubert:

"Tychson Hill Vineyard is a small, enclosed two and one half acre vineyard that produces a miniscule crop of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes each year- it takes three vines to produce one bottle of wine from this vineyard. The vines grow on a rare soil type called "Aiken Very Stony Loam." We believe this unique and extraordinary site is what the makes this wine so complex.

In 2002 we celebrated not only our third vintage at Tychson Hill Vineyard but our first crush at the new state of the art, gravity fed winery. As winemaker, what I can never get over is how intense the Tychson Hill wine has become- like Pauillac on steroids! The terroir with its unforgiving volcanic soils of mostly rock and shallow gravel reveals itself in Tychson Hill Vineyard's plethora of aromatics. The color of this cabernet is deeply pitched red to black. The wine is vibrant and complex with notes of red skinned fruits, earth and exotic spices such as Tamarind. The tannins are ripe and supple and there is a fine acid structure. Bottled without fining or filtration, the wine will continue to improve with bottle aging or will drink well near term."

We released 150 cases of the 2002 "Tychson Hill Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon in November 2005. Release price $250.00.
