The Story
The first vintage, produced in 1986, established this wine as an instant Napa Valley classic. Select Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc and aged in no greater than 60% new French oak. For close to three decades, this standard-bearer has consistently shown impressive structure and velvety berry flavors.
Wine Information
The Dalla Valle wines from the 2011 vintage are an achievement. In many parts of Napa Valley, the season brought challenges, like cool temperatures, early rain, and a relatively late harvest. Our vineyard, perched several hundred feet above the valley, with its western exposure and rocky conditions, performed exceptionally well. The resulting wines exhibit the signature profile that defines Dalla Valle wines: A dark, black fruit character, notes of smoke and gravel, and a heft that makes the taster pause and take notice. These hallmark aromas and textures are delivered on a bed of soft, supple, round tannins. This blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Cabernet Franc will certainly age for a decade or more, but even now, in its early days, it is pure pleasure.
