This is a peculiar wine, where things seem not to make sense in terms of a label information. The appellation of the wine is Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru although the wine is named according to the Echezeaux grand cru. Only thing that explains this error is the fact that the wine is labelled according to the Belgic negociant, Daniel Sanders, located in Barsac, Bordeaux. He had acquired Château Haut-Bailly in 1955, but has kept running his negociant business and was buying wines from Burgundy after that. This is why the label also carries name Barsac (Gironde). Quite a mess in terms of communication! – Juha Lihtonen The vintage was an average level. It was an excessive vintage in terms of quantity. The producers who controlled the growth in the vineyards and made a good selective picking did well.
