The Story

Located between Grand Cru Valmur and Grand Cru Preuses, Vaudésir produces homogeneous wines that can be perceived  austere but also fine and floral when young, and will develop a nice, robust and round structure when aging.

This Grand cru will match with a saffron nage lobster with spring vegetables

Vinification Methods: Grand Cru Vaudésir parcel is handpicked, like all our Premiers Crus and Grands Crus. We generally start picking in the Grands Crus parcels first because the grapes ripen earlier thanks to their ideal exposure.

We vinified Grand Cru Vaudésir in stainless steel tanks for both alcoholic fermentation, activated with natural yeast during 15-18 days at low temperature (18°C) and malolactic fermentation, thanks to natural bacteria at 20°C for a few months.

Aging Methods: From vintage 2013, Louis Moreau has decided to vinify and age our Grand Cru Vaudésir in stainles steel tank, on fine lies with minimum intervention, to let it express all its power and natural fullness. Then the cuvee will go through a light filtration and bottling.Generally, the bottling takes place 18-20 months after harvest.

Vintage 2012

2012 was beset by unusual weather that didn’t spare the vines! A mild winter, spring-like March, cool spring with frosts, summer-like May, cooler, wetter June, a variable summer with heatwaves, hail and storms… Because of the cold damp spring, some of the vine flowers didn’t set and form fruit, there was millerandage (where the flowers aren’t fully fertilised and give small berries) and high pressure from mildew and odium. Temperatures went right up during the short periods, over-heating and scorching the berries. This weather caused a significant fall in yields, without, however, impacting on the quality of the grapes, as well spread out bunches with small berries guarantee concentration and intensity.
All in all, the grapes achieved good ripeness in aromas and good sugar to acidity balance. The white wines are characterised by their finesse and concentration. The reds set themselves apart with their lovely colours, ripe and silky tannins and their harmonious mouthfeel

Written Notes

An elegant wine with persistance displaying a bright yellow colour with green hue. The nose presents complex fruit reminiscent of juicy par, ripe mirabelle, fresh lemon and lemon zest, hints of ripe hazelnuts in the background. On the palate creamy texture with elegant, amost salty mineralit, hints of oak spices and vanilla, attractive mouthfeel and excellent length.
