Merrill is the envy of many other producers by being able to hold their wines back to allow them to build maturity and complexity, while still remaining decent value, sometimes exceptional value. Most others need to release their wines far earlier, simply for economic reasons.
Is there another sangiovese available, on current release, that is from the '05 vintage? Not to my knowledge.
And the wine? Like it a lot.
Plenty of red berry flavours, along with roasted meat hints and that McLaren Vale chocolate. Ripe flavours and exhibiting early complexity. Nicely balanced with fine tannins and bright acidity. Surely one of the best sangio's around.
