The Story

Origin: A parcel located in Ambonnay that Anselme Selosse acquired in 2001.

Soil: Clay-rich soil generates rich and powerful wines

The NV Le Bout du Clos is breathtaking. The essence of Ambonnay emerges from the glass in layers of mineral-infused red fruit, crushed rocks and white flowers. The Bout du Clos is all about precision, detail and nuance. It is an extraordinary wine in every way. Crushed rocks, graphite and smoke inform the clean, bracing finish. This is a dazzling effort from Anselme and Corinne Selosse. Disgorged February 24th, 2011. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. – Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate 97p

Written Notes

Perhaps a bit to an emotional choice as it was my son Henrik`s first real Champagne Hiking with me. In full moon in fairy tail gem Hallstadt in Austria. Incredible volume and intensity.

The NV Extra-Brut Ambonnay Le Bout du Clos (2013) is otherworldly in its beauty. The presence of a touch of Chardonnay in this parcel adds aromatic brightness and a measure of freshness to play off the Pinot. Mirabelle plum, lemon confit, marzipan, chamomile and sweet spice emerge over time, but it is the wine's sensual personality and extraordinary balance that impress most. Disgorged: February 19, 2020.

Le Bout du Clos" is entirely made from Pinot Noir - a newer Champagne for Anselme as he's so well-known for his Chardonnays, the fruit comes from Mareuil and Ambonnay.
