The Story

Wine of origin:

Western Cape

Vintage conditions:

The 2011 growing season will be remembered for its erratic weather changes, which posed several challenges to winemakers and viticulturists alike. A cold, but late 2010 winter preceded the growing season, providing much-needed rest to the vineyards. The harvest was characterized by a warm summer and, along with the lower than average rainfall, resulted in lower yield, smaller bunches and consequently riper flavours. Grape quality in general was superb, with the season delivering optimally ripe and healthy grapes with great concentration.

Blending components:

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Shiraz, 11% Merlot, 9% other

Wine description:

This elegant and fresh red wine has aromas of raspberry, red cherry and mulberry with subtle nuances of spice. The palate is beautifully layered and smooth with well integrated, silky tannins and a lingering finish.

Maturation:

The wine had 12 months of oak maturation in mostly French oak, with American Oak being utilized for a small percentage of the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon components.

Serving suggestion:

Enjoy this wine on its own or as an accompaniment to roast, grilled and barbequed red meat and chicken dishes.
