Wine Information

The vintage:

Similar conditions to 2011 prevailed across the lower south west of the Great Southern. With the Winter rainfall well below average, a much lower yield was seen. A warm January with mild and dry conditions saw fruit that ripened excellently through March, resulting in smaller volumes of very high quality white wine grapes.

The winemaking:

Cool, dry conditions led up to harvest. Low crops and small bunches resulted in wines of great intensity and texture. The fruit was harvested at night. It was then gently de-stemmed and the greatest care was taken to sort the best berries for this wine. Natural yeasts combined with a long cool fermentation.

The wine:

Weight less complexity with a purity and definition of fruity flavours. A smaller percentage was crushed in a combination of new and old french oak for 8 months. A romas of nutmeg and creamy oak from the fermentation, add to the silky texture and rich mid pallet.

Drink with:

Roasted pork cutlets with apple salsa.

Vintage 2012

Lower-than-average yields in Australia, as across much of Europe. This was blamed on high winds, drought and low fruitfulness resulting from the poor 2011 vintage. Quality, however, was much better than in the exceptionally damp 2011, with South Australia avoiding some of the weather extremes experienced by other states. Strong varietal typicality is a commonly cited feature of the 2012 crop.
