Wine Information
2003 Burgundy Vintage Reports
You have to go back around two hundred years to find a vintage in Burgundy that was as early and as hot as 2003. Spring began in April with a serious frost that damaged numerous plots but from late May onwards the weather was uniformly dry and hot.
In early August, sugar levels rose dramatically over a short period of time and acid levels dropped, so preparations for harvest began in earnest.
The first grapes were picked on the 13th August, the earliest in living memory.
Although the wines from the 2003 vintage are not typical, careful vinification and temperature control produced good wines. The reds are concentrated and ripe with good structure whilst the white are opulent, expressive and noticeably smooth.
