The Story

Frank Mitolo and Ben Glaetzer spent considerable time researching the choice of varietal for Mitolo's first white wine, and Vermentino was chosen as a grape that matches well with food and that would suit the McLaren Vale region. The maritime climate of McLaren Vale perfectly reflects that of the Mediterranean coastal districts of Corsica and Sardinia from which this varietal is best known. Warm days and cool, breezy nights allow for the grapes to develop balanced acidity and fresh fruit flavors.

Winemaker Ben Glaetzer’s vision for Jester Vermentino was to achieve a crisp, fresh flavor profile. The grapes are harvested early, which results in lower sugars but good fruit flavors, and a final profile that is seamlessly dry with a refreshingly low alcohol level of just 10%.

Jester Madame d’Or mirrors the story of an actual court jester from the French court of Philip the Good of Burgundy in the 1400’s. The belief in medieval days that buffoonery was one of few professions open to women is dispelled by this beautiful golden haired Jester. Madame d’Or was often described as pugnacious and outspoken conversely she possessed an exquisite voice and a devotion to music and dance.

Written Notes

From McLaren Vale, this offers lovely lemony citrus notes with a minerally background. A pleasant, fresh, lighter style, ideal summer drinking, backed by some crunchy acidity.
