<10 tasting notes
(McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Robe and Coonawarra. No 707 or Bin 169 in 2011 means that this is a ‘relegational bonus’ wine. 12 months in 30% French oak – all new – and 70% American oak – 20% new. 14.3% alc, TA 6.6g/L pH 3.62)
Very little Coonawarra this vintage. Surprisingly juicy though. Better, smoother and more convincing style than the 2011 Shiraz wines. Tannins feel rather real and less chestnut. I like the dark, black choc currant palate that feels like quintessential Cabernet. Weight, structure and latent power – this is actually a genuinely good wine in context, even if I like the vivacious Bin 9 more. More to come too.
17.5/20, 91/100+. Drink: 2015-2025+
