The Story

Traditionale makes a lovely drink as a youngster, but will definitely improve in the bottle for 6-10 years + for those who like Riesling with a little age. I am yet to discover a better Oyster wine than young, dry Clare Valley Riesling.

Aroma:A very attractive aroma dominated by lemon/lime/citrus nuances and maybe some yellow peach. Flecks of bath powder and wet slate are also in the mix.

Palate:Fresh, crisp and dry; the palate is brimming with the lemon/lime/slate characters mentioned above, all nicely balanced by bright acidity that provides much of the drive to the finish.

Vintage 1999

Australia Vintage Report:1999 also had a dry winter in Australia, with average temperatures for all months. However, there were a considerable amount of drizzly days at harvest time, causing some headaches with varieties susceptible to Botrytis cluster rot, ie. Grenache. It cleared up and the wines produced were all closed and slightly below average intensity. They look better and better.

Written Notes

There was rain in the vintage and it was seen as a bit dilute early but is now considered as 'half decent'. Unfortunately, a touch of 'gout de cork'. A hint of lemon and mandarin. Drink up. Still, some good acidity holding it together. Mid length but one has to question the balance. 88
