The Story

A blend of almost equal parts of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

Tasting Notes

Designed to age!  We refer to this as a "red-wine drinkers white". Very versatile with foods of many styles. Intriguing aromas of honeyed herb tea with spice, minerals, mangoes and melon accented by a trace of salinity, notes of quince, clove and white fig.

Winemaking Notes

Both the Semillon and the Sauvignon Blanc are barrel fermented separately in specially designed French Oak cooperage made specifically for these varie.  These lots were aged 14 months on the lees and stirred weekly.  The final blend was put together just a couple of weeks before bottling. There was NO secondary malolactic fermentation involved.

Written Notes

2014 PureCru “Purety” (Meritage Blanc)

An intriguing blend of approximately equal parts Semillon & Sauvignon Blanc. The nose is instantly appealing, with aromatic figs, apples, quince & a hint of dust and earth. Extremely complex, austere, & rich all at the same time. The palate follows perfectly. Toasty, austere, rich, long. The fruit flavors of fig/apple/quince are balanced to each other, no one overpowering the other. Great depth. Hi acid, but not obtrusive. Very much in the style of the great dry whites of Graves. Drinking well now, but will certainly improve with age.

96 Points. At $25.00 U.S. Retail, one of the best bargains in white wine I’ve found in years. Very consistent notes (In a previous note posted on TastingBook.com, I rated this wine with a score of “95”).

"Nose: Flinty, clean, very rich with hints of spice, honey vanilla, and a slight floral note.

Palate: Very rich, but still bright, with a mix of soft fruits & vanilla. Hints of honey & fig & apricot, while still dry. Very powerful, full white. Mitch Cosentino calls this a red-wine drinker's white, and I must agree. Simultaneously smooth, pretty & soft - and yet full of power and life!

Outstanding. One of the best Semillon/Sauvignon blends I've had from California! Makes me think of a bottle from one of the great Chateaux of Graves!"
