The Story

Rina Ianca means “white sand” in Sicilian dialect, reminiscent both of Sicily’s stunning coast line and the light, sandy soil found in the vineyard where we grow our white grapes at Santa Tresa.

Rina Ianca was our first foray into white wine making on the estate; we grow the traditional Grillo and the French grape variety, Viognier, a grape rarely grown in Sicily, and which gives us great results. We find the two grape varieties complement each other perfectly, resulting in a fragrant, racy, well balanced wine. The Viognier lifts the Grillo a little, also adding some backbone and complexity.

Tasting notes: Rina Ianca has a bouquet of tropical fruits, with hints of vanilla.  The palate is beautifully balanced between ripe fruit and racy acidity, resulting in a wine which has plenty of character.

Food pairing recommendations: Rina Ianca makes an ideal aperitif. In Sicily, we would pair it with Spaghetti alle Vongole (spaghetti with clams). Rina Ianca goes with all types of seafood and white fish – try it with sea bass stuffed with fresh herbs and baked in foil in the oven or on the barbeque.
