The Story

COLOUR: Green with gold tinges

CELLARING: Drink now – 2017

NOSE: Citrus, lime rind, waxy green apple with small cashew nuttiness and perfumed French oak.

PALATE: Dense, ripe, rich and full throughout the palate. This is a very textured, stylish wine, with excellent acidity and length. Citrus and green apple combine with ripe white peach and figs, slightly funky, nutty characters from the wild yeast and a hint of creaminess from the malolactic portion. Fruit and acidity are integrated seamlessly with waxy, vanilla French oak.

WINEMAKING COMMENTS: The grapes for this wine are sourced from Block 8, Seven Scenes vineyard, which is high in the hills at 850m elevation. Wild yeast is used most years for our premium Chardonnay, with full barrel fermentation in new French oak barriques. The wine is then aged on yeast lees in oak for 12 months with batonnage for 3 months. The very best barrels of the vintage were hand-selected for this limited edition.

Written Notes

At $85, this is most likely the most expensive white wine out of Queensland’s Granite Belt, so much is expected. It does not disappoint. Citrus, figs and a pleasing grilled cashew note, all mix very well with some exuberant tropical notes, with pineapple and banana noteworthy. Nice flick of acidity holding things together. They have used 100% new French oak, but it is very well integrated. Soft texture and good focus.

Score: 92/100
