Written Notes

Bought a few years after release. Level & cork: Excellent.

Please note: This is the superior "Alte Reben" bottling, I could not add this to the description.

Colour evolved: Golden yellow, surely from overripe grapes. 2005 is one of my favourite vintages in the Rheingau, the dry wines from top producers will easily keep for more than five years from now. However the Berg Rottland Alte Reben has 13,5% Vol. and has lost its balance now. The higher alcohol is no longer balanced by the refreshing acidity of the vintage. This Riesling now tastes more like a big Wachau Riesling, quite heavy, full bodied, somehow creamy. It still does a good job when served to a fish with a rich or spicy sauce, but overall this Riesling begins to decline. The Berg Schlossberg Alte Reben was and still is the better choice in vintage 2005.
