1953 Ducru Beaucaillou is one of my most favourite wines ever in Bordeaux. Not powerful or majestic, but so perfectly balanced and the archetypical claret. Healthy, maturing colour, a complex nose and soft sweet fruit. Don’t decant too long in advance – 10 to 20 minutes should be enough.
